Anybody playing this game with a joystick?
As the title suggests; Is anybody using a joystick (not controller), to play this game, and how does the steering work for you?

I'm getting frustrated with the steering using the keyboard, but cannot deal with an entire wheel setup, and don't have an X-Box controller, but I do have a great joystick. Can you use a joystick? Will it perform better than the keyboard?

I play this with an old sidewinder force feedback 2 joystick. It's much better than keyboard. Just make sure to indicate in your settings that you're using a joystick and not a wheel.

I use a Sidewider2. Much better than the keyboard and mouse.

xBox360 controller here. More portable than a wheel, and easier to use to play ATS with, imo.

Thanks. I think I'll give it a try.

I'd highly recommend grabbing a cheap wired 360 pad for the best possible experience aside from having a fully fledged wheel. Keyboard and mouse is along with a joystick doesn't enhance the authenticity and whilst a gamepad also falls short; in terms of an enjoyable and comfortable experience; it's probably the next best if you're not 100% dedicated to a true trucking experience with wheel and pedals. The 360 pad is also ideally laid out and superb to use.

I use a Thrustmaster joystick & throttle, and in both ETS2 and ATC works perfectly fine, with smooth and precise control of the wheel ... I use with the autocenter option turned on, as I found it easier to use.

The X axis of the joystick turns the wheel, while I use the lower half of the Y axis for braking and I mapped the trigger to the airbrakes. For throttle I use the aircraft style throttle that my joystick has and it works fine.

I prefer mouse steering. Put the sensitivity low and it's pretty good...

Thanks again all for the responses. I've ordered a wired 360 gampad, and I have a nice joystick(if I can find the cord to the thing.)...I guess I'll give them both a shot.

You can turn off those anoying speeding tickets...at least until the devs get it fixed, OR you get used to where the anoying speed changes take place. It does take a while. I still try to do the speed limit where possible. However, I'm using a realism mod that doesn't pay much, and one speeding ticket would set me back a few trips...so...I leave it off.

I use a Logitech 3D Pro for steering and throttle and mouse to look around, works for me.

I've got a wheel set-up, but its such a PITA to setup and work around. I purchased a XBox360 controller and the difference is AMAZING! It takes a bit of work to get your settings and buttons set-up, but once you do, its a much more smooth experiance.

I play with a Extreme Pro 3D joystick by Logitech. I find it just as good, maybe even better than a wheel. Haven't had a crash in days. Only times I crash is in MP when a 5-year old rams me. XD

I have a joystick but I haven't tried it yet. I've been playing with an old PS3 controller.
