ATS using xbox controller??
I am brand new to learning and playing American Truck Simulator and I am having a lot trouble setting up the Logitech F710 wireless contoller (the F710 works exactly the same as a Xbox 360 controller, so don't tell me i need the Xbox 360 controler, because my F710 works fantastic with all my other games that require the use of the Xbox 360 controller).

Why can't i set the left trigger for reverse, the right trigger forward and left\right buttons for shifting gears.

Any help on how to set the basic controls up for ATS (moving forward\backwards using triggers and shifting gears using left\right buttons). Thanks

Control wizard?

wow!!! that was useful (Control Wizard) NOT AT ALL, I can't just set the right trigger to move forward (it also wants me to use a the left joy stick) or the left trigger to only move backwards, like I said I am new to ATS, but setting up the controller just doesn't seem to work no matter how i try to set them for my liking, is there a diagram on how to set things up, because I don't understand the settings modes. There is absolutely no simple setting just to move forward, backwards, the steering seems to work fine, just remember NOT everyone is a serious gamer, some of us are just trying to learn how things work. The only games I have ever played are SC2015 and FS2015.

It is not a limitation of the game in my opinion as I have a Logitech controller (I don't remember the model number) and have forward and reverse mapped to the right and left triggers.

I use the Steam Controller and setup was fine. Are you going into the control settings at the bottom of the options (the icon looks like a wheel)? In there you should be able to set controller type to Xbox, then in the next option, make sure that says gamepad and not wheel (going from memory - I'm at work). Scroll down a bit and click on where it says throttle, then push the right trigger (if has option, should say "centered"), then click on the brakes, push your left trigger, and choose "inverse, centered".

Like I said, going from memory, so some of the words may be a little different. You didn't go into detail as to what you had tried, so if you already tried that, let us know and maybe can come up with something different.

You need to be in keys and buttons. Use the alternative (right hand) list. click on the control you want to set and then hit the button on your controller you want to use for it. I have set my controller up that way

and ditched the idea to use a controller after 5 minutes and switched to mouse and keyboard. There is no way to get the right analog stick (I have the Logitech F510) to look around wich imo is key when using a controller :) (if anyone knows how to free look with the right stick please tell)

I'd have to look at my setup, but it is possible because I have my right stick mapped to look around. I then have it also mapped that when I press it down it goes back to center.

That's exactly how I have my right stick set up. lol.

To the OP- you don't have to be a "serious" gamer to know how to set up a controller. You just have to have some patience and a little common sense. What is it exactly you're trying to do? Use the RT for gas and the LT for brake/reverse?

Well on the reverse, this game doesn't have a reverse button. This simulates the vehicle and so no matter what, you're going to have to put the truck into reverse first and use the accelerator. None of these trucks have a reverse pedal. You should definitely be able to set your gear shifting up and down to your d-pad if you want though. That should not be a problem.

If it's not recognizing the inputs when you go to change your controls in the options menu, then something is wrong with your controller/software or it's not supported by the game. Can't speak for this game specifically but in general, rule of thumb, I've found that official Xbox controllers are the most reliable in terms of support.

Oh my god, I really need to buy new glasses. I totally overlooked those settings in Controller setup

Sorted my controller as well. OP thanks for posting the Q and disregard my first post please :)

Oh WOW, THAT is completely different now. classic Rock, green smoke (or beer, whatever rocks your boat) and the controller, I can finally run a rig with good music playing without crashing it due to my own rocking and rolling lol

Actually if you use simple automatic, the Brake button IS the reverse button. It starts reversing as soon as you come to a full stop. no other input is required, I have been able to remap everything except LT/RT has anyone been able to get those to rebind yet? If so how? I have a official ms 360 pad (several in fact) and I set the in game options to use 360 pad and went into key rebindings but it wont recognize the triggers.

I use the 360 controller and it works fine. I use sequential gears, have lights, turn, horn, cruise, parking brake, start engine, etc all mapped to buttons on the controller.

Yes, I use the right for throttle and left for brakes. The top two are left/right turn signals.

Once you get everything working, copy the controls.sii file from your profile to some place save so you dont have to mess around again... I copy both my config.cfg and controls.sii some where else as a back up. Create a new profile and just replace those two files with my backed up ones, everything is the same on all profiles...

I had no idea they did that with automatic transmission. Sounds like a terrible way to play the game (just bein honest.) Also I really don't know why it's not recognizing triggers for some of you guys. I have it in sequential and it's recognizing all my buttons on my 360 controller (official.) Sorry I can't be of any help.

Is your controller wired by chance? Thats the only thing I can think of that could cause it not to recognize it (Mine is wirless). I tried more than one pad and both work fine on other games. A for gas and X for brake just feels strange after RT gas and LT brake on so many games (even though i used to always remap them to A and X back in the day).

@ an actual truck I would be using full sequential if i had a wheel and proper placement for it, but Since I am playing from my couch using a controller I use the easiest way.

Edit: I just figured it out you have to map it under the section where you map the camera/steering because the LT/RT are analog and thus not recognized as digital inputs. I should have realized it sooner but in most games it just works. So there is the answer for anyone else having this issue. I think the window is controls, but i'm not looking at it atm. Its the one under where you bind all of your normal keys.
