Dev's & this "Retarders" & American Semi/Tractors Thing
I'm posting this as a seperate post for the Dev's. Please do read this Dev's.

The thing I am finding funny in this about this "retarder", is American trucks don't even have a retarder on the transmission. That's a European thing, I think. American trucks have what is called Jake Brakes. They are part of the engine. You have 3 settings for them. Jakes help a truck slow by preventing the fuel being pumped into each cylinder, from firing. With no combustion in the engines cylinders, this helps slow the truck down. And unless you know what your doing, you don't drive with them ON 24/7. Because when they are on, they will activate as soon as you let off the throttle. Otherwise they do not just come on. It's not possible.

Setting 1 open the values on 2 of the engines 6 cylinders. This is mainly for bob tail or when your empty.

Setting 2 opens 4 of the engines 6 cylinders. This is for when your not loaded up heavy.

Setting 3 opens all the values on the engines cylinders. This is for when your heavy and really need help stopping.

This is an issue that SCS really needs to change. American Semi/Tractors do NOT have retarders on their transmissions or gear box if your prefer. Jake Brakes are part of the engine. And only work when you let off the throttle.

Best thing to do, don't use the retarders. Disable them. They don't exsist on American class 8 heavy road trucks. Period. I know, I drove rigs in real life for 18 yrs.

you have a ''Toggle engine brake'' button
works like a real jake brake (except only on/off)

First, the the codebase is the same as ETS2, which is why the retarder is there
second, hydraulic retarder are now available on most current trucks in the US and Canada (with the exception of Volvo, who install the VEB instead)

IIRC, B is assign by default to the jake brake, but you hvae to hold it to work, and as soon as you release it stops. Wich is not how it works in real life.

You have a fonction that have no button assigned by default, '''Toggle engine brake'', that works like the real jake brake. You press it once and it will only work when you depress the throttle.

About the retarder, I guess they wont change it and best to either: not use it or dont install a transmission with it

It's not that American trucks don't have transmission retarders, it's that they're not used anymore. It's not impossible to find an American truck with a transmission retarder, they are mainly used on trucks for heavy loads such as heavy tractors that require either a police escort or need beacons and flags to signal they are in the area. It is mainly as a brake since they take so much weight. But people are just using gearing and engine brakes to stop now these days. While it's very uncommon for American trucks to have transmission retarders, it's not something that shouldn't be in the game because it is an option, you don't have to buy it in the first place.

As far as engine retarders, are you talking about the idle engine retarder?
