Might be easier to associate the files with another, more suitable program like 7-zip or WinRAR. To do that, Right-click the file > Open With.. > Choose 7-zip/WinRAR etc > Tick "Always use this program.." > Click OK.
And that's odd.
In fact, depending on the .scs file itself, it may well be a text file because some scs files contain scripts (.sii and .sui files) and they are text files.
