Shifting choices
I haven't seen much discussion on shifting pattern preferences. I started off with ranged simple plus warning sounds and just recently switched to ranged + splitter. Once I've gotten comfortable with that I'm going to give the Eton Fullers a try. I'm curious as to what others are using and why. Also if someone has tips on mastering the Eaton Fullers I'd like to hear them.

I use the ranged setting, mostly because IMO it's eaiser to use 1 button to get to 7-12 and 1 button to get to 13-18 instead of pressing button all the time to split the gears,

I don't have a steering wheel/gear shifter setup so I just use the up/down shift. It'd be a hell of a lot easier with a shifter and an 18 speed.

Mastering them is just practice. 18 speeds are not hard to drive. Keep track of what gear you're in and don't be afraid to skip gears, especially with a light load or no load.

The Eaton Fuller 18 speed setup for the G25/G27 is actually very nice. Makes driving more interesting.

The 3 "Eaton Fuller" modes are specifically designed for each of the gearboxes in the kenworth and perterbilt. So if you're in a 13 speed, use the 13 speed pattern. This way you'll always be getting the most out of a h-shifter pattern, and they're all true to life.

I'm really enjoying a 10 speed gearbox as it only has a single range toggle button. But if you have a less powerful engine or you're taking extremely heavy loads, the 13 or 18 speed gearbox is the way to go for those steep climbs and hill starts.

Low gears also assisting on getting unstuck, there has been a few time in MP I got stuck because of me swerving to avoid idiots, just put it in gear 1 and I drive right out.

I never noticed the Eaton Fuller choices. I've been using range with my thrustmaster shifter; can anyone explain how the Eaton Fuller choices work before I go messing with my settings?

More gears means you can stay in your powerband more efficiently also. This equates to more pulling power and more fuel economy.

Can you explain powerband to someone who knows nothing about trucking? I know the engine descriptions give particular torques and HP for a certain RPM, but is higher RPM not necessarily more power?

I watched some youtube videos to figure them out. For the 13 and 18 gear you need to configure 2 buttons, one to switch range, the other to split.

Eaton Fuller 13

- With both range and split OFF you get RL, L, 1, 2, 3, 4
- With range ON, split OFF you get RH, N, 5L, 6L, 7L 8L
- With range ON, split ON you get RH, N, 5H, 6H, 7H 8H

The full sequence to go from L to 13 is:
Range OFF
- Split OFF, Shifter 2: L
- Shifter 3: 1
- Shifter 4: 2
- Shifter 5: 3
- Shifter 6: 4
Range ON
- Shifter 3: 5L
- Split ON, Shifter STAYS on 3: 5H
- Split OFF, Shifter 4: 6L
- Split ON, Shifter STAYS on 4: 6H
- Split OFF, Shifter 5: 7L
- Split ON, Shifter STAYS on 5: 7H
- Split OFF, Shifter 6: 8L
- Split ON, Shifter STAYS on 4: 8H

The cool thing here is you can toggle range and shift BEFORE hitting the clutch to move the shifter. Apparently the real transmission even allows you to split by just letting throttle go for a second. No need to use clutch. I haven't been able to use it that way.

Eaton Fuller 18

- With both range and split OFF you get RL, LL, 1L, 2L, 3L, 4L
- With range OFF, split ON you get RH, LH, 1H, 2H, 3H,4H
- With range ON, split OFF you get N, N, 5L, 6L, 7L 8L
- With range ON, split ON you get N, N, 5H, 6H, 7H 8H

The full sequence to go from L to 18 is:
Range OFF
- Split OFF, Shifter 2: LL
- Split ON, Shifter 2: LH (game bug here, it uses Range ON instead)
- Shifter 3: 1L
- Split ON, Shifter STAYS at 3: 1H
- Shifter 4: 2L
- Split ON, Shifter STAYS at 4: 2H
- Shifter 5: 3L
- Split ON, Shifter STAYS at 5 3H
- Shifter 6: 4L
- Split ON, Shifter STAYS at 6: 4H

Range ON
- Shifter 3: 5L
- Split ON, Shifter STAYS at 3: 5H
- Shifter 4: 6L
- Split ON, Shifter STAYS at 4: 6H
- Shifter 5: 7L
- Split ON, Shifter STAYS at 5 7H
- Shifter 6: 8L
- Split ON, Shifter STAYS at 6: 8H

EDIT: corrected EF13 sequence

A truck engine delivers the most power (has the most torque) round a certain rpm. That’s where you want to keep the rpms. It’s different for each engine so check the specification at the truck dealer.
Higher rpm isn’t necessarily more power for truck engines.

Interesting fact: you can give whatever truck you're driving (even a quick job truck) whatever transmission you want except for 6 speeds. I bought a 579 with 18 speeds, wrecked it, did a quick job and set the transmission option to EF13 (which is what the rental truck had) and when I switched back to me Pete I was still shifting 13 speeds. Likely just a bug they haven't gotten yet.

I really like my Eaton Fuller 13, and I'll grab the 18spd version once I can pay off my loans lol. Once nice thing is not having to depress the shifter to grab reverse. I don't use a splitter with it though like MachaQueso suggests, that's just too much work when you can get to all gears just fine with a simple range select.

Yeah, until I found the real transmission options I had mapped all the shifter positions custom, so reverse was top left, First/LO bottom left etc. and I never used the depressed 6th.

G27 + Eaton Fuller 18 = just lovely :steamhappy:

Saw a fella in another thread that was using the new Thrustmaster shifter (T108 or something like that) for gears and the g27 shifter for spliter control.
Gonna see if i can find simple 3 way switch with USB and print small gearshift to use for spliter control.

Seems like a really good setup.
