I do not know if the US has a max speed, each state has different rules. California you are limited to 55 on the highway and 30 in cities. Nevada you can go 80 in place and 35 in citites.
In ETS2 trucks are limited to a max of 90km by regulations and trucks have a limiter in them to keep them from speeding.
In ATS, I'm still on quick jobs and in borrowed trucks so I don't know if there are gearboxes with 'R', does the cruise control work the same way as ETS2?
In ETS2, with cruise control on, it prevents my truck from speeding away when going down hill, so that would be a transmission retarder?
In ATS, I can hear the engine note change when going down hill. backing off the throttle when I go down hill but I still pick up speed, so that be a throttle limiter?
PS: many people probably don't know this. On the main menu, on both ETS2 and ATS, if you go to the About button, you can find all truck configurations that you get in the game, so you can play around in there.
Each gearbox in the game has 2 versions. One with and one without the hydro-mechanical retarder. You want the one with.
Until you get your own vehicle, however, you have no way of choosing which transmission you'll be driving with. Sometimes you'll get one with, sometimes you'll get one without... actually no, I just checked. All company vehicle transmissions in ATS are without retarder. Sorry, ETS2 had a mix for company trucks, ATS doesn't.
One more thing, retarder equipped transmissions require a certain level to unlock. You need to be level 2 to unlock the 10-speed, level 6 to unlock the 13-speed, and level 12 to unlock the 18-speed transmissions equipped with retarders.
I think I am at level 5 and $69,000, so I've got some miles to do, and now I've got a better idea and goal for a transmission that I would like to have to suit me.
Happy trucking.
If it is unchecked, but grayed out and doing a World of Trucks contract, you are restricted regardless of what that setting is originally set.
