You buy a used truck for a nice discount. Repair it for a little bit of money. Boom, it's like new.
That'd mean one of three things.
1. Used will be cheaper than new, for the same condition (including repair fee)
2. Used will cost more than new, for the same condition (including repair fee)
3. Used will have a permanent downside (Like, an unrepairable engine fault issue that happens every 20 or so mins.)
I chose option 3. That way used Vs new isn't just one > other. And it would allow the impatient to get new trucks faster, with the patient being rewarded with shiny factory new ones. Plus, it'd be pretty cool to see rusty ol' trucks driving around until they get re-painted.
You usually did this early on when money for a new truck (or extensive repairs) wasn't an option, and the used trucks had options pre-marked so you could not customize them either. They came as-is.
Basically you got a damaged truck with pre-selected options for a smaller fee. I thought back then it worked out quite OK.
For balance i like the 3rd suggestion from Sir Duck. Some strange fault that happens now and then and will cost a rather large sum to fix. In exchange for dealing with this you get a truck of your own for a nice price.
it's a thing they are funny, because if you beggin with the most hard difficulty, you have not the money to nuy a new big truck and you need to beggin in the bottom of the stairs, and not at the top in starting...
Basically Option 3 is what i think we all want and need. :)
Would licensing really be that obtrusive?
Licensing doesn't allow for damage.
It used to, remember how you could smash up licensed cars in the PS2 era?
Car companies don't allow damage to be done to their cars in games now.
It's that bad, every detail has to be approved, every mod that SCS plans to release has to be approved. This is why, i am assuming, we don't have nearly 1/4 of the tuning parts we do with ETS2.
I couldn't see it being to hard to make a mod for used trucks though, then again half the mod trucks are so cheap you could consider them used.
I believe that SCS has discussed used trucks but that it hasn't gotten beyond the discussion stage.
