Why can't we buy 'used' trucks from used vehicle dealers?
I've seen multiple of them. This could be a good use of a offline/online MP feature. We buy new trucks in our SP game, and the old truck we 'trade in' is now on a used dealer lot for other players to buy.

It might make some sense in Multiplayer and once SCS implements full Multiplayer option maybe we'll see this feature in the game. In SP it doesn't make sense at all because there's noone else to buy our used truck but you :)

I like the idea, but I don't see how it'd come in useful.

You buy a used truck for a nice discount. Repair it for a little bit of money. Boom, it's like new.

That'd mean one of three things.

1. Used will be cheaper than new, for the same condition (including repair fee)
2. Used will cost more than new, for the same condition (including repair fee)
3. Used will have a permanent downside (Like, an unrepairable engine fault issue that happens every 20 or so mins.)

I chose option 3. That way used Vs new isn't just one > other. And it would allow the impatient to get new trucks faster, with the patient being rewarded with shiny factory new ones. Plus, it'd be pretty cool to see rusty ol' trucks driving around until they get re-painted.

In the older 18WoS-series there was a possibility to buy used trucks for fairly cheap money.

You usually did this early on when money for a new truck (or extensive repairs) wasn't an option, and the used trucks had options pre-marked so you could not customize them either. They came as-is.

Basically you got a damaged truck with pre-selected options for a smaller fee. I thought back then it worked out quite OK.

For balance i like the 3rd suggestion from Sir Duck. Some strange fault that happens now and then and will cost a rather large sum to fix. In exchange for dealing with this you get a truck of your own for a nice price.

it's will be perharps a feauture, in the old game of the american truck they have made "18 wheels of steel", they have this in it, you can buy old used truck, it's good to help to start in the beginning and you have not enough money to buy a new one and/or for your other driver they work for you, i have used this old truck more and more often in this old game,

it's a thing they are funny, because if you beggin with the most hard difficulty, you have not the money to nuy a new big truck and you need to beggin in the bottom of the stairs, and not at the top in starting...

Basically Option 3 is what i think we all want and need. :)
I assume licensing doesn't allow for used trucks.

Would licensing really be that obtrusive?

Licensing doesn't allow for damage.

It used to, remember how you could smash up licensed cars in the PS2 era?

Car companies don't allow damage to be done to their cars in games now.

It's that bad, every detail has to be approved, every mod that SCS plans to release has to be approved. This is why, i am assuming, we don't have nearly 1/4 of the tuning parts we do with ETS2.

I couldn't see it being to hard to make a mod for used trucks though, then again half the mod trucks are so cheap you could consider them used.

Another option would be to require a major engine/drive train overhaul after so many hours of operation. The clock on a new truck starts at zero, while the clock on the used truck will already have time in it. The closer in time you are to the required overhaul the cheaper the truck.

I believe that SCS has discussed used trucks but that it hasn't gotten beyond the discussion stage.

With official release of classic versions, Used Dealership would make perfect sense. Or even finding a rare truck somewhere on remote farm, buying and fixing it

i seen a ton of great ideas and love to see them in the game as a real driver i see ths happen a lot with owner ops buying used trucks and slowly working on them
