Engine power! (or lack of it) NEED A DEV!
The engine's in the game are rubbish! No go in them at all! The truck makers IRL produce much more powerful engines so why are there so few in the game?? The HP and Torque are just usless if you have a heavy trailer on. Luckly a modder has created better, more realistic engines and that's great but obviously cant use them on MP.

Im just curious if you have ever driven an american made truck in america?
You keep saying things need to be a certain way to be realistic...but realistic by whos standards?

Correct me if Im wrong (as I very well may be) but were the engines not part of the licensing from PACCAR?
If so do you think they would allow their products to be misrepresented?

Here's another good example of lack of engine power: when you have to stop on an exit ramp. If you're unfortunate enough to have to stop behind a line of cars on the incline, the engine has a tendency to stall when you attempt to move up the incline from a dead stop. This is when the transmission is in first gear and the retarder is off, regardless of engine power and load weight.

I could see this as viable with the smaller engines ingame and some of the bigger loads.
But the bigger blocks ingame shouldnt be stalling like you have described. Struggling with a heavy load for sure, but not stalling.
Very interesed if you have more info on this....engine+trans comobs you had this issue with, what on/off ramp(s) your talking about and the weight of the loads in question.
Some of these bigger engines in lowest absolute gear with retarder off should be able to push over small building lol..may take forever but its kinda hard to stop granny-gear, at least it is on the Army duece and half trucks.

Engine stalling occurs on any inclining exit ramp with a stop sign if you're forced to stop on the incline (as opposed to near the top of the ramp where it levels off). It doesn't matter if you use the smallest or largest available engine, and regardless of transmission.

Yes it is, but in this game the only way to get a decent truck is with a excessivly high HP.
Horsepower means nothing in ETS2 (or ATS).
Torque is the thing that makes the trucks go.
At least in terms of this game.

I guess most of the younger fraternity here don't know what a hill start is :)

Right, cause i guess your a RL trucker too like everyone else claims to be....

Ive followed enough trucks in my time to see how much they slow down when they go up any kind of gradient,

The basic truck has something like 360 bhp ? thats only 40 more than my scooby had, and your asking it to pull 20-30 ton up a gradient ?

Ive driven this enough to know if you drive them properly they perform as good as the RL ones

Like i said already this isnt a racing sim.
Yes I am a real trucker and have been for many years! I know how a truck should pull a trailer! Yes we slow down a lot when weighing in a 44 tonne (32 tonne on trialer usually) And I know how we pull a trailer with only 8 tonne on and beleive me there's a massive differance! 8 tonne drives like your empty! In this game it drives like it's 32 tonne! If you don't know what you are talking about then please refrain from commenting

Agreed :)

It's funny how you can even stall an automatic on a hill start to :D

I do know what im talking about, seems its you thats struggling to understand, you talk of 8 ton ? ive never had a problem pulling 8 ton up any hill in this 'game', guess your not using the gear box properly

So you don't loose any spped at all pulling a 8 tonne trailer up a hill?? At 8 tonne you shouldn't have to touch the gears!

How about we get some facts in this thread?

The Euro 6 emissions and EPA16 (north america) emissions are very similar. They both use DPFs, SCR, EGR, DOC and other emissions systems. The whole idea of "Americans have crappier trucks than euros do because of our emissions" is simply wrong.

The Euro6 MX13 is rated up to 510 hp with 2,500 NM at 1000-1425 RPM. The EPA13 MX13 is rated at 500 HP with 1850 Ft/Lbs (which converts to roughly 2508 NM) at 1100-1400 RPM. In-face they are both High Pressure Common rail fuel systems with VGT turbos and have the same base engine (block, head, pistons, etc).

This whole idea of NA diesel engines being worse off than everyone else is simply wrong.

Now the physics in-game? I'm not sure about that. I can attest that the power feels pretty similar to a real North american engine in real life with the same kind of weight.

Whether anyone is curious or not, but I think the 18 speed retarder ♥♥♥♥♥♥ is bugged. There are too many posts to go through to see if anyone else noticed this. Hear me out.

So I've been running the 13 speed retarder ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for awhile paired with the 500hp engine. No problems whatsoever. Playing around, I even hit 107mph in Nevada (was bored lol). Anyways....

I'm at the garage repairing and thought I would glance at upgrades. I see that I never purchased the next ♥♥♥♥♥♥ I unlocked. It was the 18 speed retarder ♥♥♥♥♥♥. I popped it on, and headed out to grab a job. I get going down a road that I've been down numerous times.....and I'm struggling. When I say struggling, I'm fighting to go 25mph. After dirivng for a few, I got fed it up. There was no way I could drive like this. I started going to settings, cutting the retarder on and off, decreasing the retarder, etc. with no luck. Screw it... I reloaded.

My save was at the garage so I put the 13 speed retarder ♥♥♥♥♥♥ back on. I went and picked up the exact same load and took the exact same path. No issues whatsoever. I had my horsepower back.

Might be helpful to someone or might not be helpful to someone. I figured I'd mention it regardless.

Keep truckin' my friends!

I haven't had this problem and I tried all the transmissions. I'm using real automatic and Xbox 360 controller, fyi.

I find the engines are just fine. I get up in speed fairly easy with light loads. Now when you talk about tonnes I assume it is like metric, correct? It's not the same tons in the U.S.? This goes with your power to weight ratio, as the weight system is slightly different in the U.K. I'm not a truck driver, but I do have a grasp on the difference in measurements between the U.S. and the U.K. Please I'm not asking for an argument, just a clarification.

Torque matters more than HP when it comes to Semi Trucks. Low on the HP, but absolute beasts in the torque department. More torque=more pulling power and better acceleration.

Agree, applies to most diesel and straight sixes. Look at farm tractors and Jeeps.

Unless you run automatic you should no problem with power. I use a simple automatic and a 350 hp engine an I can haul a 30t digger 'fine'. I don't see the problem :steamfacepalm:

As far as issues with driving up hills, Thats very realilistic. You ever fly by a truck while in your car going up a hill and see a loaded tractor-trailer in the right lane with his flashers on going 25 mph?

Velocity is something most truckers are familiar with (at least in practice). Many times it's best to build up speed before trying to climb a hill. It's easier to continue moving at a certain speed than it is to try to build up speed.
