Skinning trucks for ATS is exactly the same as skinning trucks for ETS2

how do you upload the skin don't you need to sellect the right truck?
create you own skin file.
Start ETS2 Studio.
Select any base truck from ets2 default

SKIN PROPERTIES
Skin Name
Internal Name
Unlock Level
Cost
Use Alternate UV set

TRUCK SKIN
Select you skin file in "truck skin" section
Select colors of your skin if it have mask color

WORKSHOP ICON
Select workshot icon

EXPORT
Then press "Export mod' button.
Export as ZIP file. Don't set "lock mod file"

Open skin archive you just exported
go to "def/vechicle/truck" from the extracted archive
create folder "peterbilt.579" or 'kenworth.t680'
copy .sii file from your base truck "paint_job" to "def/vechicle/truck/peterbilt.579/paint_job/"

Replace accessory_paint_job_data
such as "whatever.volvo.fh16_2012.paint_job"
to "skin name here.peterbilt.579.paint_job"
In ETS2 Studio you can also use PNG files for the skin proper.
You don't need to bother with .dds conversions as ETS2Studio does that for you.

Also, try and make the skin image 4096x4096 pixels. This makes for a better quality result.

Don't you need the templates?
If not then how do you know where your placing the decals etc?

Technically yes, but IIRC there's a file called bodybasic.dds somewheres in the 'vehicle' directory which is the closest thing to a template until somebody decides to extract the UV set from the ATS trucks.
i tried it like this and i get the skin as an option but when i its shows up on the truck i see a few thing i add like pictures but i see the emplate layout asswel and the colour i pick for base colour is no where to see
Before you save your image as a skin, you need to disable the 'template'.
In PhotoShop this would mean clicking the 'eye' icon on tht layer to make it invisible.
When you flatten all the layers a message might pop up saying "Discard invisible layers?"
click Yes.

Get the templates here: PNG and PSD formats. Excellent templates they are too.

You can not use custom skins in MP, no.
I'm not sure I tried using MODS but it would not let me. I got confused between skins and mods sorry to all
