Tires?
Do they increase grip? Or purely cosmetic?

Cosmetic as far as I know, not sure if they help with fuel economy or not.

They have 3 properties, roll_resistance, wet_grip and noise_volume.

That means they can resist rolling down hills, grip better in rain, and are more quiet, am I correct?

Are you sure? I had checked def.scs and didn't find anything about that

I assure you, it's there.

SiiNunit { accessory_wheel_data : 3.ftire { name: "315/70 Runner" price: 2210 unlock: 9 model: "/vehicle/truck/upgrade/tire/front_2.pmd" icon: "f_tire_03" front_wheel:true look: runner roll_resistance: 4.5 wet_grip: 1.05 noise_volume: 72 paintable: true } }
Last longer.

There should be some in-game indication of tire properties, and I guess the "paintable" option hasn't been activated in the game yet, unlike in ETS2 where you can choose the color of the lettering on the tires.

There is so many discrepancies between ATS & ETS2 that I'm wondering if SCS didn't take an older version of ETS2 to create ATS, like 1.20 or 1.21 and not 1.22.

Yeah, long time ETS player here and this thread has confusing info indeed.

I toss my hands up and say' no; idea now'.

In the past, tires were purely cosmetic and have zero impact in game for player truck, as
well as any 'improvement' for AI hired employee.
Just cosmetic.

If this has changed, it is a major news flash.
There is no indication in game this is so.
Shrug.
I say , spend the big bucks on them tires. You have little else to blow cash on and
will be desperate to find ways to spend your lucre in time.

Syd Khaos Feb 9, 2016 @ 2:16pm
When in doubt just purchase the most expensive tires you can afford.

Update 1.22 in ETS2 added functionality to tires beyond cosmetics. Here's a video that shows the different characteristics

And the patch notes where they added rolling resistance, wet grip & noise levels.

That being said, I don't see these same values in ATS. Maybe they're there behind the scenes, but if so, it's not implemented the same way as in ETS2.

Actually, when you chose the tires in the workshop, the differences are clearly displayed. So if that guy up there did in fact unpack the files and didn't find them, it does imply that ATS's tires are only cosmetic.

Yeah they aren't there. The values you showed me were from the ETS2 def.scs

Not sure the communication issue, but that's what I just said.
