Using an H-Shifter for 18 gears.
I am new to trucking and have an H-Shifter. I was a little confused with the Range and Splitter options for shifting.

I realize for 18 gears, I would have to have 2 buttons to shift ranges. I have also heard you can customize each shifter postion to gear (sounds advanced)

My question is; for those of you who use an H-shifter, how do you have it set up? Any tips or tricks to getting it to work?

(I have tried it in spiltter and ranged with the button to change ranges, but it was confusing to keep track of which gear set I was in... (Being new-only played a few times)... does it just come with practice?

Currently I have it on real automatic and use the H shifter to go drive-N-reverse (Pitaful .. I know)

i think better if you keep basic as possible, so at 1st if you press switch 1 that will 7th and at switch 2 13th etc. for me this is easy idk how good can handle the H-Shifter

(if you know what i mean

I like my H-shifter.
I use one position for forward and one for reverse :-)
not shame at all :-)

I use splitter with 2 of the buttons on the h shifter 3-6-9-12-15-18 works best for me but sometimes i have to change to higher gears for heavier loads

I think I will give this a try... that gear lay out seems like it would work in most situations. thanks.

I use the "Range" mode.

Toggle 1: 1-6 R1
Toggle 2: 7-12 R2
Toggle 3: 13-18 R4

I works just fine for me. I find that the Eaton shifting thing is too complicated.
Just use range.
