If you want the game simple and new at these simulation type games i recommend the Automatic but you will complete the deliveries slower, if you experienced in it i recommend the Manual because you can earn extra time and you will complete deliveries faster

Many trucks are automatic in real life, so there is no shame in using automatic gearbox if you find that more enjoyable.

I used to drive manual in ETS, but now I enjoy automatic in ATS.

You can use both. In Gameplay settings set your transmission type to sequential. Then in Keys and Buttons settings assign one button to Gearbox Switch Auto/Sequential, assign one button to Shift Up and one button to Shift Down and you can select manual or automatic on the fly within the game. It comes in handy when in a tight situation where you only want to crawl in manual and then when you are on the Freeway go back to Automatic and relax. It works!
Note: If you don't have a controller you can use the default keyboard settings or re-map them to whatever. By default the Shift Up and Shift Down are already assigned to keys. The Gearbox Switch will have to be assigned however. Neat!

If you've got an H-shift go manual for the immersion. If you find you don't enjoy shifting, or you don't have an h-shifter give go sequential or automatic.

H shifter, but im rally thinking about stop and use automatic :-/
This is just annoying now with alot of extra buttons just to shift, the one button to change odd er even gears in ETS was fine, this is just annoying :-(

I prefer using manual, I like having more control over gears especially downshifting, it seems that the game's automatics don't downshift for you when jaking. I like it more if I'm running empty too, I can skip more gears.

Right now Im using sequintial auto. Would use normal auto but the damn thing dont downshift when it should imo.

As of tuesday (when my G27 arrives) I will be changing over to full manual.
