Why do we not see real McDonalds logo and stuff (Solved)
Is that because of licenses? And if Yes, then why are they not running to game Developers and beg them to use their real logo's aka free advertisement?

Or am I missing something?

Yes.

And because McDonalds doesn't know the game exists/doesn't care.

What happens when a game developer put real logo's in a simulation game without a license?

They get sued by McDonald's and have to pay ol Ronald.

McDonalds only want to sell you a burger. Do you want fries with that ??
But seeing their real logo in a game (simulation) is free advertisment right? Why would any company have problems with that?

You clearly don't understand how system works, try looking into it.

That's exactly why I'm asking, I have no clue.

Whats wrong with Ray's burgers.. home made, real beef, delish!

Any who, cuz of copyright.. You need licenses for everything. Hence there's only 2 trucks so far.. More trucks will come once they finalize it.. Now idk if these companies would charge to let someone make a game, but i'd not give a sh if the truck I was driving was called .. Porterbilt...

Arpone, some companies/ or most worry bout their brand image and pay big money for all the consultin firms and pr firms before they do anything to see how the public would react to a product.. They pay tons of money to plug in their sht into movies, thats why your lead actor drives a Mercury and camera pans around the car really slowly..

To put it short, McDonald's (and Burger King, Chik-fil-a, etc...) all have trademarks on their logos. In order to use the logo, one must have permission to use them in a game or media that requires payment, for instance American Truck Simulator.

Its really not just about free advertising, its about the rights to even use the logo in the first place. Copyright law is very convoluted and sometimes outright ridiculous in some cases, but that's the way it is.

The rest you can Google for.

I'm trying to understand why a company doesn't want their name and logo in a game that thousands of people play everyday, yet they pay so much to get on television while in games it could be totaly for free, I seriously don't get it :/

There should be a "special" Law for Simulation games only then, because they present the real world and with that I mean, when a McDonald's is on the same location ingame as in real life, the whole building inclusive all Logo's and symbols should be used, just as I can see in real life on that same location!

In a nutshell. If a game company makes a game using a company logo/trademark and sells that game, the company that owns that logo/trademark will want a cut of the profits...yes?

So then they want more, free advertisement isn't enough? Yet they pay so much just to get on television :/

With other words, they don't want free advertisement..

Sadly, that's not how the real world works. It took two years for SCS to acquire the licenses and the right to use the 7 brands in ETS2. Many of us are hoping it won't take as long for ATS because SCS will not be using fake brands in order to demonstrate the game in a better light.

As the game is about driving trucks, not so much as the businesses themselves, trucks and trailers should come first. This isn't some AAA title like Need For Speed where you do regularly see a real brand for a business in there, but rather the subtle driving that is an 18 wheeler on American roads.
