Maybe bug. Anyone else getting retarder stuck?
I`m in a Peterbilt, with the 13 speed, retarded engine. Sometimes the retarder gets stuck on, and i end up fighting it. Can clear it with the retarder inc/dec buttons.
I thought it might be a disgnostics problem, but I repaired all damage and it has continued with 0% damage.

Try reassigning the button and see if it still sticks

It's happened to me, just press your increase retarder button a couple times, then the decrease, that will take it off. I think its a bug that got missed, it'll be fixed soon.

Guess this is a good place to ask it.

Since the tutorial is lacking for someone who's never played ETS and I can't find a manual,

What's the retarder, and what's it do?

Exhaust brake.

Ok, we're making progress (thank you).

I've seen options for that in the game, now how is that different than pressing S to slow down?

Is there a good guide you guys can point me to?

It's more realistic (and safer) to use the engine to slow the truck down, rather than relying on the wheel brakes.

Mine got stuck this morning. I'm gonna turn off adaptive cruise control later and see if that works.

It allows you to slow the truck down (in increments) without braking. It helps a lot in stop and go traffic.

No, the retarder is a mechanism on the transmission. The engine brake, which also isn't an exhaust brake unless specifically designated (which it isn't in this game) is separate from the retarder. The game has two separate keys for these braking systems.

Getting the retarder stuck still when breaking out of cruise control, except now it gives a dialog telling you how to turn off the retarder. Is this bug classified as a "won't fix" bug, then, since the change was to make a dialog instead?
BigT57 Feb 24, 2016 @ 4:24pm
I would say it is a bug. The retarder has stuck on me at least three times.
Rickenbacker Feb 24, 2016 @ 4:26pm
It's a bug. If you turn off the cruise control while the retarder is on, it sticks on. Fiddling with the retarder increase/decrease buttons fixes it for me, though.

Hasn't happened to me in a while but when it did I would just spam activate and deactivate. I was also using auto retarder at the time and play with keyboard/mouse so figured pulsing my brakes may have had something to do with it getting stuck on.
