INSTRUCTIONS FOR HP REVERB G2 VR WITH XBOX ONE S CONTROLLER


1. Enable the XBOX controller via the Steam controller settings. Restart the Steam client to make sure that the settings are applied. Test the controller afterwards to make sure it's detected. If not troubleshoot until you resolve it.


2. Find & select "American Truck Simulator" within your Steam library.


3. Right click "American Truck Simulator" after it's highlighted & select "Properties"


Under the "General" section do the following:


Set "LAUNCH OPTIONS" to "Launch with DirectX11"


Input "-openvr" as the command within the input box there.(Don't use quotes!)


*** Do not input "-oculus" in this section unless that's what you intend to use.


4. Click "Betas" section & select "oculus - Oculus+OpenVR - 1.49 - (SDK 1.4.0)"


5. Opt to install it & allow it to complete.


6. Configure your Windows Mixed Reality settings in Windows 10/11 to allow manual switching under the "Input switching" section found under "Startup and desktop" located within the Mixed Reality settings.


Set that to: Manually switch using Windows logo key + Y


7. Launch SteamVR by pressing the VR glasses on the top right of your Steam client with your mouse pointer. Do not use your WMR controllers to launch SteamVR or to launch the game!


8. By pressing the Windows + Y button key combination on your keyboard you can switch between the standard desktop or SteamVR assuming you enabled Manual switching within your "Input Switching" as instructed in step 6.


9. So once you manually launch SteamVR with your mouse pointer, make sure you switch back to your desktop to make it the active screen using the Windows + Y key.


10. Now you want to launch "American Truck Simulator" manually from your Steam library. Do not do it via SteamVR or with a WMR motion controllers!


11. You may not see the game load on your screen but you may hear the audio playing. You should be able to press the F11 & F12 key to toggle between displays and it should come up within your HP REVERB G2 headset.


12. You should be able to use your XBOX ONE S controller to navigate the game menu in VR and drive in VR like any other native VR games.


I recommend you change your graphics settings to medium or better if your system can handle it. I set my scale up from 50% to 75% to improve visual fidelity in VR.


I'm on an ALIENWARE AURORA R9 I7 3.0 GHz 32 GB RAM NVIDIA RTX 2070 WIN 10 PRO so only use this information as guidance in managing your graphics settings to avoid lockups and potential crashes.

Remember that the F11 & F12 on your keyboard are the keys you want to use to switch between game modes while you're utilizing the "-openvr" or "-oculus" command switch as a launch option.

*** You can turn on your right WMR motion controller if you need to recenter your view in VR via the Steam overlay dashboard. Just hit the hamburger menu (Button with 3 lines), point & click on the Steam recenter icon & it should recenter your view inside the car. You can turn off the WMR controller afterwards.

The thing is pretty incredible with the HP Reverb G2 once you configure your graphics settings & use it alongside a steering wheel to further enhance the immersion. I had to dust off my old reliable MOMO Force Wheel to try it out.

I'm not going to lie, I used some mods to make fast money, downloaded a few sports cars via the Steam workshop & completed a quick job to secure the money necessary to acquire a garage and buy a modded car.

Once you have the garage you can buy the modded cars via the mod truck dealer but you have to download the mods first, enable the mod via the mod manager & then you gain access via the mod truck dealer option. This will allow you to freeroam the map with custom cars & just have fun driving around! The VR feature just makes this title 100x better!

You can leave the default gameplay rules or you can disable them to not be penalized with fines or prompts requiring you to rest. It's like GTA without the violence. You can also load your own music or play real radio stations as you drive.

This can boost your confidence driving on the streets & highways. Most fun I've had driving freeroam in VR.
