how does one get the check engine light to shut off....

Before you just had to repair but with the new system if too much wear you might have to replace parts or even fully restore.

I have replaced all the parts an still on...restoring the truck makes 0 cents im my eyes at 300 + grand buy a brand new one for 190...thats not cool

Cheapest fix : open dashboard panel, cut cable, close dashboard panel.

I took the bulb out of mine on my 86 Chevy dually. I started with covering it with a piece of tape, but after a couple years just took the bulb out. The truck was new, had less than 10,000 miles on it when it came on. I was in the middle of the Arizona desert and I panicked. I pulled over and got out the owner's manual and looked it up:

"The emissions control system has stopped working"

Got back on the road and ignored it. Then did the tape and bulb thing. I still have the truck, and it still runs great. It must have over 300,000 miles on it. The speedometer has been busted since 52,000 miles. Been coat to coast 5 times, California to Washington to Texas and all over in between. Was my daily driver for 11 years.

It can cost more to restore an old truck than to buy a brand new one, same as it can cost more to restore a classic car IRL than to buy a brand new car.
