Why does mileage reset on a used truck?
I just bought a used truck with over 500K mileage. However, when you go to the list of your trucks, it shows zero miles driven.

It's not a truck intended for me to drive, so I haven't tested it yet in traffic. Perhaps the physical odometer inside the truck shows the actual mileage, but the game itself thinks it has zero mileage despite only having a three-star rating.

Is this a bug on my side or does it REALLY work this way? If so, I'm pretty disappointed.

The used truck feature makes a lot of sense, but needs to be done properly.

I do use mods, but they only consist of modified truck textures and a custom company logo, no new trucks, maps or anything. So I don't think that this (or anything else) could be caused by these modifications.

The list in truck manager shows the mileage a particular truck did for your company.

I thought of that. With this update though, IMHO they need to change how this works.

No they don't. It doesn't show the overall mileage of the truck, just the mileage since you bought it.

Agreed, it works just like I would expect it to.

The milage on the vehicle is just that. The distance coverd by previous owners. The milage shown in your trucks list shows the distance driven while the vehicle is in your possession. These two are completely different things.

In the USA if a car or truck lot changes the correct mileage they could go to jail ans receive a very hefty fine...

TW, I guess you couldn't be bothered to read anything. The mileage on the truck is not changed. The other screen simply shows how many miles your company has driven it (not overall mileage).

Is it so hard to understand that these are different things?

It's not hard to understand, but I'm questioning whether it should work that way or not.

The screenshot only shows part of the screen (truck profile), but it shows zero miles even in the actual list of all trucks.

IMHO it's bad design. If I go to the truck manager, I want to know the actual state of the truck. I don't care how many miles it's done for my company, the relevant data is total mileage. It's misleading at the very least.

Maybe I'm blind, but it doesn't show total mileage anywhere in the menus. As I said, the odometer might be working properly, but I don't care about it since I don't drive that particular truck.

If we had both stats at once, then I would be complaining just for the sake of complaining. If it's indeed not there (I guess I need to check again, perhaps I'm really blind), then it's bad design. Aside from the star rating, there's nothing to indicate this truck has been used before unless I drive it myself.

I'm like level 140, I have no actual reason to buy used trucks aside from having old trucks there with high mileage to make it look realistic. If I can't see it, I can stick to buying new machines.

Just my opinion though. Not forcing it on anybody.

The odometer in the truck reflects the total distance driven in the truck, including by previous owners. The Truck Manager shows you the total distance recorded in profit logs for that truck. For trucks only driven by hired hands it will be an accurate reflection of the mileage done in the service of your company. For trucks driven by the player it might not because there are wrinkles around free roaming in multiple trucks and how World of Trucks contracts are handled.

Update, after being ninjaed by the OP's update, just to say that I agree with the idea that the Truck Manager should have a way of displaying the real odo value - the data is stored in the saved game.

I wish they added the total mileage stat then. It wasn't needed until now since all trucks started at zero, but that isn't the case anymore.

Now that you all explain this to me, it kinda makes sense, though I never once had this thought that the menus were supposed to be showing anything else other than total mileage in the first place, hence me being hella confused.

I have 1200+ hours on the game.

Sure it should. If I use the truck manager I want to know what this truck has done for me - not for the folks that owned it before.

Opinion against opinion. Although I admit having both numbers would not harm anyone but indeed cover all possible needs for information.

Somewhere, the total mileage should be listed. Documenting only the miles a truck has traveled in the player's possession seems useless.

That's what a dashboard is for. It shows total mileage on it.

I get their point, and a fleet manager won't climb into every single truck and turn on the ignition to read the odometer. They have that in their fleet management software. And the longer I think about it the more sense that value makes in the truck manager indeed.
