SHH Newt 2 shifter...6+R or 7+R plate?
As the title says, which plate for ATS/ETS makes the most sense? I've settled on this shifter after looking at all options (unless someone here can change my mind?).

I play a lot of Dirt Rally (1&2) and WRC, so I want one with the sequential mode included, as I will also be mounting a MOZA handbrake alongside it (NLR wheel stand 2.0, bottom mount). I would have bought the MOZA HGP shifter, but it doesn't have sequential.

Has anyone here received the SHH shifter recently who lives in Canada? It's about $190 CAD with the additional sequential top plate, but I'm wondering if there will also be customs/GST on top of that?

The game only uses 6 plus reverse, but have you thought of the Thrustmaster TH8S, it's much cheaper.

Thanks. Yes, I have thought of the TH8S, but it isn't a whole lot cheaper once you add the sequential 'mod'. Most have said that it's no comparison to the SHH as well. Having said that, if it drops in price to $79.99, I'd definitely go for it. Atm it will cost me $113 CAD ($99.99 + tax) plus another $15 for the rubber stoppers for the mod, which I don't consider to be an ideal solution.

I also need it to bottom mount on my stand as the clamp will put it too low and it will run into my DIY home cockpit. Once I get a shifter though, I may need to modify that as I suspect it's going to be up too high (at the top of the adjustment on the 2.0 wheel stand).

You need a total of 6 slots for any of the transmissions in ATS or ETS2. I have a TH8A and would not consider using it for racing, so probably double so for the TH8S.

I have the TH8A, which can swap between sequential and H-shift by just swapping the H-shift plate with the included sequential plate. It is quite distinct from the TH8S.

As you can probably tell by my name, I'm Aussie, so I'm not sure what the TH8A would cost for you in CAD. I think it may be a bit outside the price you mentioned in your post for the SHH however. I do know that we tend to get ripped on prices for computer stuff here so a straight currency conversion wouldn't be the best way to find it's pricepoint for you.

Using the sequential plate for racing works much smoother than trying to H-shift it. I use H-Shift in ATS and ETS2, and sequential in Forza. Tried H-shift in Forza and immediately swapped it for sequential.

I agree with everyone here I had my TH8A for a few years and I love it, The only problem I see with it if you want to run 8 speeds, 10, 13, 15, 18 etc you have to buy a SKRS or some other thing to sit on top of the shifter you split and range between gears, For this I use the Farm sim side panel and use switches 17 and 18. other than that the TH8A with last for years to come trust me, I know people who had there's since the beginning and never failed them yet.

H shifting the TH8A in racing would indeed be no fun. I'm not a big fan of sequential on that shifter either, and for most racing on modern cars paddle shifters work best for me...

You can assign any available key or button to split and range, not as realistic as having a dedicated knob, but free... :lunar2019smilingpig:

Fair. Personal preferences there on paddle shift. I dislike the paddles on my wheel (the only thing I don't like about my wheel, too), as I feel like they have too much travel before they register the press. Got a TH248.

The TH8A costs $299 CAD + tax atm, so well over $100 more than the SHH (shipped and converted to CAD), unless there are exorbitant customs fees/taxes when it ships from Spain. It usually goes for $249.99 ($185 USD). Stuff here usually costs the same as in the US (or less) once you convert it from USD...as it should considering we're right next door. I could have bought the TH8A a few years ago (pre-covid) for $149 CAD (new...on sale), so the price for that one has gotten stupid.

The TH8A also doesn't seem to rate very well in all of the 'top 5 shifter' videos I've watched...it's usually dead last, unless the Logitech cheapo shifter is included. People don't seem to like the way it shifts, or the hassle of switching the plate for sequential. I would just get that one however if it was cheaper or the same as the SHH as I can just pick it up locally anywhere.

I actually do have one of those dedicated truck shifter knobs. I bought it about a month ago as I saw it for dirt cheap on sale on Amazon (had it in my wishlist for a while). So I have the knob...but no shifter :steamfacepalm: I actually used to drive semi in my summers when I was in University many moons ago, but I can't remember now how many shifts it took to get into the high gears, just that I had to split it once.

I used "uses" because you don't have to use in game configurations and are free to set it up any way you want to.

So nobody here uses the SHH for this?
