Lost in the Secret Houston Neighborhoods?
I'm not particularly computer savvy and I just wanted to see what I had stumbled on.

I was messing around in Houston and after passing through some trees suddenly I'm on the other side of the "wall" and cruising around neighborhoods in Houston that I formerly could only see from the other side of the regular game routes. Most walls and some cars were solid. I found some 1d trailers. Some foliage was solid and some wasn't and there was moving traffic. I was able to cross under a highway and several times when I got to what looked like the end of the road I just drove through a 1d forest and continued through another neighborhood.

I was able to drive right up until I was adjacent on the map with the Houston skyline photo objective. Though of course no routes ever appeared and on my map I'm just in the black. A couple times I drove through the end of the road or into the water and fell into he end of world bobbing around half in black, half in the horizon.

Is this a known thing? I'm playing on the Steam Deck with no mods. I've stumbled across hidden and secret roads before but nothing as big and expansive as this. I kept getting lost, but fast-traveling to my garage in Houston always worked.

I took some pictures, but it was with the deck (now typing from a laptop) and I don't know how to share them here.

Any advice or knowledge appreciated.

That sounds like a bug which should be reported on the SCS Forum.

Not a bug.
Driving off road, even if you can, often ends up with falling endlessly through the "map"

That absolutely is a bug unless you have a mod that removes the invisible wall.

Yep, no mods installed.

As for reporting it, I assume they'd fix it and I rather like my secret passage to driving all around Suburban Houston.

Really though it mostly makes me wonder how much more of the game is essentially playable except that it's unreachable.

I know where in Houston he's talking about. I'm certain it's been reported.

These areas are basically background to give the cities the appearance of being realistically sized, beyond what you can see. Being able to access them should not be possible, though there are some areas where the invisible walls are not present, especially if you are off the road, such as between trees as you said.
