Because it's a Dell, it's got a proprietary mobo and PSU layout. The best GPU upgrade you're going to be capable of is going to be a low profile, low power type card. A Nvidia GTX 1030, for example. Which really won't be much if any of an upgrade to the intgrated GPU.
While it would make a fine office computer, or very low graphics gaming; I would try to look for something else.
16GB is fine for DDR4 RAM.
For around the same price range as a core i7 OptiPlex 5060, what do you think would be a better alternative for High (not ultra) graphics + mods?
Hopefully under 300 dollars for a fast quality PC.
Graphics cards are going to be a pain to shop for. I would hold off on doing anything for the time being because of the huge DX12 update that SCS plans to release sometime this year, according to Pavel.
The performance bump in 1.47 is nice and it should get better once they get their game engine to work and take advantage of the latest hardware. Will also be a boost to those on the lower end too.
I'm sorry, you're not going to find anything in that price range.
For a while I’ve been using an OptiPlex 9020 which is pretty decent for Medium and sometimes High graphics (when not using mods,) and that worked out for me. All I’m really looking for is a small step up from that. Should I look into something from a different yet similar brand like HP or Lenovo.
I’ve never really known anything about PCs and Computers, so I don’t know what steps to take and what to miss.
Don't just take my advice, but i'm gonna say if you were happy on the optiplex 9020, the newer optiplex 5060 (hardware wise) is a step up, and you'll prolly be satisfied. I mean looking at them just component wise, 5060 is a fair upgrade.
Will that run the game on high settings with a bunch of mods... no prolly not. Youll most likely be getting the performance you get now.
Would I get improved performance without mods? I usually only use a few mods.
I would strongly advise against any system where you are locked to integrated graphics. From the specs for the Dell there is no PCIE slot for a graphics card(when your funds replenish).
All PC gamers need to repeat ''NO to Integrated Graphics"
Only ever buy a system with a PCIE graphics card slot.
This is important.
If you buy a system, go ahead, use the integrated graphics from the CPU, but make sure you have a PCIE slot for a graphics card later.
edit; oops, appears there is a pcie x16 slot on the 5060.
My above point still stands though, for others
BTW, Intel have had Integrated Graphics on their CPUs for years, AMD only recently.
Well actually above price range is without the OS. I always forget that.
