What's the point in buying a sleeper cab?
Is there any benefit?

Not in game.
In real life, it's a driver's home while on the road.

Yeah I know about real life, it's just a shame they didn't explore this in the game.

Players that play this game to maximize the increase rate of the yellow number in top right corner of the Route Advisor (aka profit) have no use of a sleeper in-game.

Players that want to customize their own truck for immersion, fun or whatever reason can do that. It is cool to have a long tractor with a huge sleeper.

Longer chassis may slightly reduce capacity for some cargoes due to weighing more, however, they support larger fuel tanks, so you don't have to stop for fuel as often.

Having more axles and more driven axles also contributes to chassis weight.

As of right now, immersion. Maybe if they ever go more in depth with company simulation, they may make it mean something, but as of right now, truck choice in general has little bearing on profit iirc.

Likewise, a daycab with a shorter 4x2 has an advantage of being very easy to manouver, especially in tighter places, which is why IRL we see these used in situations where they may make a local delivery, or a delivery in a tighter space. Of course with these, the driver usually gets to go home every night, or the company will pay for a motel nearby overnight if for some reason they can't be back home so the sleeper is not necessary.

It does make me wonder if we'll ever see those crazy Giant custom sleeper cabs. The original granddaddy of this game (Hard Truck: 18 Wheels of Steel) had a Kenworth K-100 that had one like that. They're basically an RV inside complete with kitchen and bathrooms.

I doubt it. As you said yourself, they are Giant "custom" sleeper cabs. I think it is fairly safe to say we will only see official configurations and parts from a manufacturer, either truck or aftermarket parts like Michelin.

I understand people wanting to Park anywhere and sleep anytime and like most I do wish it was possible for SCS to implement this in game, but until they do or don't, which I doubt will ever happen, I park anywhere on the map and usually that means I'm at the end of my game session and ready to hit the sack. The one thing about simulations is I use my imagination to immerse myself into the game world as i do with all of the sims I play.

The way SCS has sleeping ingame is to prevent you from getting a illegal camping - parking ticket. Many states now will automatically give truckers tickets if they are found on the side of the road. Tbh Day cabs need to have even tighter restrictions on sleeping spots but this is a game and limiting users in a trival way is kinda lame. Just think of the driver calling cab (remember those?) and getting a lift to a hotel OR grabbing a camping tent for more remote locations. Sleep anywhere is a risk in today's world.

Well in ETS, we have seen other 3rd party tuning (visual exterior) parts, and it sounds like they may even be looking at other 5th wheels as well if I understood their recent post on it.

Usually though those parts are more limited to things like bull bars, wheels and certain cab accessories.

Issue might also come down with these custom sleeper companies also not really having a standard layout. It's sort of how a lot of those camper trailers from smaller manufactures are usually made to order. Then comes making it work for every model that's in the vanilla game, and if every truck manufacture is okay with this when they licensed it (it took them a while to convince the folks we have now to get on board. For the longest time Freightliner was very hesitant IIRC.)

It has a possibility of happening IMO, but I'd imagine it isn't much of a priority. On the other hand, we these as mods which is always good.

Thats kinda why I said official manufacturers, either truck or parts. The 5th wheels are also a standard commercial product made by a real brand. Same with the aftermarket parts like accessories, they are based on realistic mass market parts, even if not directly licensed.

Like you said, i think the unlikelihood comes from them being truly custom machines. There isnt a standard, and it isnt an accessory to the truck, it is a major change to the truck itself.

All that being said, mods have definitely done it before, and I am sure there is at least one available right now that is updated and working.

As are trucks with the short suicide cab!

I'd love a K100 with a massive motorhome style cab but I guess that's for ATS2?

If you look at some recent video's of the recent Truck Show out west there is a Western Star I think ( I maybe wrong ) with a huge "Sleeper" compartment, it is just like an RV it has everything in it:
Shower
Toilet
Oven
Big Kitchen
Seating area and table
Huge 52" Wide Bed

It's a home away from home, no need to stop at truck stops all the time
