Why doesn't it snow on the American truck?
I find it strange that it doesn't snow in such an evolved game, even the old Atari Enduro game had snow...

This game is in perpetual summer at the moment on summer solstice, or the longest day of the year.

If you want snow then you will use a mod. But the snow mod will make it snow in San Diego, Brownsville, TX, and extreme southern areas to where it doesn't snow in real life. Not very realistic is it?

The amount of work that SCS would need to do to create seasons in the game is quite large. I don't think we will ever see seasons.

Because ATS hasn't been in DX11 mode for that long, they are still working on updating the engine with more physics that support it, the game use to be DX9 only for a long time

DX11 came to the game in 1.35 which was released June 10, 2019. 4 years ago.

DX11 was necessary to get the game to move to DX12 which is currently in the works.

It is way easier moving to DX12 from DX11 than to DX12 from DX9.

What is your point?
Yes it has snowed in those places, so I suppose he should have said "it doesn't snow in real life ON THE DATE THE GAME PORTRAYS", no it does not in the third week of June :lunar2019smilingpig:

He never stated a point in time.

Heh, I was actually going to point this out too. It's factually false that it "never snows" in South Texas, or some other places.

Now, as far as recorded history goes, climate records start in 1880, so anything prior is just witness accounts or other news sources perhaps. (which is why some meteorological events are still debated to this very day, such as the Tri-State Tornado) For example, San Diego has had snow before in its history, but is very rare. Same goes for Miami, FL that far as I found out, only has it recorded once so far.

While I know this isn't the topic at hand, because the game is set in a perpetual Summer currently, but when it comes to debunking things that are false for weather, yeah I'm going to be there as well with recorded data. So, while it's false to say that "Brownsville, TX never had snow" or the same with San Diego, CA, what isn't false is how rare it is. Take DFW for example, it's rare to see snow here, but it does happen from time to time. I usually see this pattern every couple/few years when I see at least some snow build up. Then you get freaks of nature events like the couple freezes we've had in recent times.

(and yes, studying meteorology has been a very big hobby of mine, partly out of necessity for where I live, as well as my options for getting a CDL and making informed decisions about weather conditions that are forecasted)

It does not take much imagination to guess that his comment regarding the game was limited to the game :lunar2019smilingpig:

Whic would be wrong again because a snow mod will usually change the date to December / January. It is just a number in a text file...

True, but then you get snow on all places all over the map....

Didn't know that the date changes, so I stand corrected. I've only played the frosty mods a bit as I really don't enjoy them, so just never noticed. Do the hours of daylight also change then?
MLH82 Sep 4, 2023 @ 10:43am
Yes, you can change the day number (x of 365) in a text ile and it changes the daylight accordingly.

I believe there is a mod in the workshop that changes this day weekly/monthly, syncing the daylight in the game with real-life.

I did not dispute that, did I?

Yes, the game is capable of (quite) correct sun calculation - with some extremity errors very far north - as in "Nikel on ETS2 with Promods" which is at more than 69°N. There the sun actually set for 3 hours on a date it was not supposed to do so - it however correctly did not rise and leave everything in twilight in early January. But back then (2017) must not be true anymore, especially because SCS teasered to get further north with their next ETS2 DLC and if there are flaws north the Polar Circle and they will publish official maps there they will iron that out.
But south of 49°N as the official ATS maps are located you can say the times are basically correct.
