Windows 10 or 11

I am currently using Windows 8.1 and with the change occurring in January 2024, I am not familiar with Windows 10 or 11. Those of you out there that are using those operating systems..I would appreciate the pros and cons of each.. I am not looking for alot of bells and whistles. I use my computer mainly for playing games, I am leaning toward keeping my computer and just updating to a new OS rather than buying a new computer if possible. I am 75 and I love playing ATS and ETS2 so my computer knowledge is limited. Thanks in advance..

win11 ran fine for me when I was on an i7 9700k but now everything runs like a dream on the i9 13900k.

I know beacause of that comment I'm gonna be hate like a rock you find in the middle of the road but windows 11 is better in my opinion it have a better performance and it will be even better with windows 11 if you have a HDR monitor beacause of auto HDR that has been introduce in Win 11.

If your hardware is as old and outdated as your OS, then it won't run Win11. Upgrade to 10.

I installed it on a old computer that is from back in the days of windows vista and it runs better then before with the 10, but, if your not comfortable with working on computers and your computer is old/not compatible, install win10

Hi I'm 70 too You don't need to get a new computer. just up grade to W10 OS that's upgrade NOT re format. Click on your short cut and a way you go. If you anyone who can guide you (IT) etc great. You can upgrade via windows (cost) I believe. try that but till the end more NEWS will follow I'm sure ????

Thanks FriendCalledFive but I already knew the story when I made my comment. It was an MS employee at a public event who made the statement and the company did not issue a denial at the time. The creation of 11 was a marketing decision, pure and simple, not a technical one. At some point they want to be able to start charging us a monthly fee for using their OS and moving away from Windows 10, permanently associated in people's minds with the 'free upgrade', makes that a more palatable change at some point in the future.

I have also heard this. I feel when that happens, Linux adoption is going to spike. I know I will be switching to Linux before I pay a subscription for Windows

Windows 10 still dominates though. Also older PCs like the OP has wont be able to use 11 because of its TPM 2.0 requirement. There are workarounds but its not easy for the average user. I would go with 10 because its way more stable than 11.

Also if you upgrade to a newer OS always do a clean install
