Stuck in traffic for an accident
Hi all,

I am loving the game and this is my 2nd job at night i'm driving from LA to AZ and on the interstate I found an accident I am stuck behind, how long will that take? will I be late delivering my items with my quick job?

Go around the accident if you are able to.

Another option is to save the game and then reload that same save. The traffic will be gone.

Sometimes the AI does get stuck and will not move on their own.

The only other way to get around is to use the right turning lane

There should have been a police block at the entry of the road with the big accident. You were NOT supposed to bypass that block (even if is quite easy to do). The police was there for a reason - the big accident further ahead.

You were supposed to take a detour, e.g. by setting new waypoints on the World Map.

If you don't want this Detour feature it is possible to disable it in Options -> Gameplay by setting the Detour slider all the way to the left.

If the police were there, then it was by design and you're meant to take a detour somewhere to get around it. Although the game is kind of lacking on alternate routes and sometimes the shortest detour is about two hundred miles long. :Owlcat_sleepless:

If it was the result of the AI sneezing or something and some vehicles just piled up and now the traffic won't move, then you pretty much just have to drive around it or save scum.

Or I guess you could say "Damn the torpedoes! I'm a big rig driver! Git outta mah way!" and start ramming. (Of course you'll end up paying for it in damages and fines...) :GATimplogo:

Even IF the police were blocking it, and you went around, you can STILL get through the accident by using the shoulder, you'll fit through there, I've done it NUMEROUS times, and made it through just fine.

That's what I was thinking about "not supposed to". If I wasn't supposed to there would be side roads to make a realistic detour. Those events are to test your ability to squeeze through.

They are not intended to "test" your ability to squeeze through on the shoulder... :steamfacepalm:

The Detour events are intended to force you to plot a different route to your destination. Will that make you late? Probably! But then, that's what happens sometimes, eh?

If you're just sliding past on the shoulder, then why not turn the Detours off?

Why turn the detours off and not SEE these wonderful accidents :-)

well it depends on what kind of accident you ran into. As others have said if its a detour, for example a bunch of police cars blocking a freeway exit you have to take, the intent is to have you go to your destination another way though a lot of people just squeeze past them. Im guilty of this a few times myself simply because a lot of the time the gps will redirect you into a second detour which then redirects you back to the first detour you ran into and gets stuck in a loop i have to manually open up the gps for and fix. Which sometimes i find annoying to have to stop and do so ill just squeeze past the detour simply because i dont want to deal with marking places on my gps.

If its a crash caused by really dumb AI because for some reason the AI has no idea how to properly merge, you can just save the game manually. then instantly load that save and it will make all the traffic reset and disappear and your route will be open again. If its a accident caused by dumb AI theres no chance it will clear because AI cant fix its self at that point so saving and reloading is the only work around there.

Check "Add new avoid location" (top right corner of World Map) and put an "avoid-waypoint" on the blocked road and the GPS won't route you into that loop.

Not 100% correct. I got caught in a loop once, that had no way to get out of. It was a while ago and I cant remember where, but I was forced to go around the first road block to progress. This was a few DLC states ago and could be fixed at this point, but it has/can happen.

im just speaking from my own experience with the game. i cant even begin to count how many times ive got caught in gps redirect loops. All you have to do to get out of them is go to your gps via the map and tell the gps to not allow it to direct thru the places the detours are at as the person below me stated. Doing this i never had issues with being permanently stuck in a loop. My point was im guilty of squeezing past detours simply because it sometimes feels like a lot of extra work to have to stop my truck, open the map, set the avoid markers. i just really dont want to deal with that hassle sometimes so i wiggle my way thru detours just so i dont have to deal with the annoying gps work around.

Maybe it was a bug at the time or maybe it was because at the time I had detours set to max, but GPS wasnt the issue. It was literally 2 detours that routed back to each other because of the road layout. Again, this was a while ago and at least 3 states ago.

Was curious as well, slept few times and accident never cleared. And closest detour is extra 3 hours...very unfortunate AMS don't have county roads along the highways.
