True. Steam is ending support on Windows 7 at the end of the year.

And that means not only this game but all steam games if you use windows 7.

The game still can be played on Win 7 (until they may add a dx version or other mandatory features which is not available on it).....if you find a workaround to launch steam (not sure if ats/ets2 start without steam drm) on win 7.

Not just Steam. Anything that uses Chromium is ending support at the end of the year due to Google ending support for Win7.

I started reading that thread and most of the posts were made by 1 person who blames steam for Microsoft not supporting WIN 7 anymore

I updated to Windows 10 in April ..I was running 8.1..I backed up my files on an external drive using a backup program, . I purchased the Windows 10 disc (new) and installed it right over Windows 8.1 It was a scary thing to do because i was afraid I would lose everything on my computer. When the OS installed, updated itself and booted up...everything was still there on my computer. I had to tweak a couple of programs using the compatibility option but I have had no issues. My biggest issue was finding the Windows 10 program. Most sites are only selling Windows 11. The disc was around $75-$80 (USD) Sure was cheaper than buying a new computer. and ATS and ETS2 are running without a problem

Right?!? .. I have not paid for a legal legit copy of windows since something like 2010 .. All my old Windows activation codes still work, even the ones from old Win95 computers. Even without an activation code, you can download Win10 from Microsoft, install it, and activate it online, for FREE.

All that said, there is still a place of old OS's .. I have several machines that still run Win7, and one that still runs WinXP 32bit .. Retro-stuff can be fun, heck, I even still have my Windows 3.1 install Diskettes, and MS-Dos disks of the save era.

Newer games do not support older OS, Windows 7 is not an exception.

At the time I had no intention of updating to Windows 10 when that offer was available..I was very happy with Windows 8.1..The only reason I updated to Windows 10 was so I could continue playing the newer games plus ATS and ETS2.

Also I went to Microsoft initially to see if the free upgrade was available..This is from their site "The free upgrade to Windows 10 offer from Microsoft expired on the 29th July, 2016.

Eh, one can still obtain free ISO's from Microsoft via the Media Creation Kit they provide for 10 and 11. You can use those just fine to get legit copies of the OS, straight from Microsoft, no fuss. You can even use them to create a USB and make an install media and install the OS.

The only downside? You just get an annoying watermark that your copy of Windows isn't activated and you can't personalize the OS. That's really about it. They might restrict some updates, but they should still get security updates regardless, so even that should be fine for the most part. Plenty of ways to even get keys too if one wants, or just pay Microsoft for a key.

Don't know if this still works, but I believe keys for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 could be used to activate Windows 10, maybe 11. Pretty sure I did this for my OEM Ultimate copy of 7 that I have, which is the only actual key I have ever obtained, but I've never actually paid for a copy of Windows in my entire life. (friend of mine got me that 7 OEM key)

I am still using my keys for Windows 7 pro, received free from Microsoft when I was an Insider Programme beta tester, and it was being launched sometime in 2008/9. They are still valid for my two current installs of 32- and 64- bit Win 10 Pro version 22H2. I passed on the free upgrade to Win 11, my new mobo was lacking the TPM and fitting one was going to cost actual cash money!
