Any news on the new game engine?
Its been a while since I heard about it, the devs were saying that they might release it this year.

The assumption was that it would be in the second half of 2023, however that still leaves a number of months. No further info or blog post has been made to date. May be a part of 1.49 if it does come out later this year. Just need to await official news on the subject.

Pavel actually talked about it during a recent interview with a Czech company. Translated to English here:

I don't think that the engine will not come before 2024, becouse the end of support from win 7 and win 8 from steam.

@AyMazingATS, Thank you for that link, looks promising and with TAA anti-aliasing confirmed.

I like the following quote "new possibilities have opened up for us to add new graphic elements/features in the next 1-2 years as part of the new engine."

That is confirmation of further updates being built upon the work soon to be brought to the game.

There is no link between the engine update and windows support.

With the end of support for win 7 and win 8 there is no need to support of dx 11, becouse win 10 had dx 12

Does a new engine mean the game will finally get borderless windowed?

As far as I am aware, the devs have not commented on adding a borferless windowed mode. The DX12 update may prevent the GPU using going to the moon for some players when ALT-TABing out of the game.

Even if Steam would support Win7 and 8 beyond that, there is nothing that stops SCS from upgrading their engine to DX12.

Don't know SCS plans for DX11 support going forward, but several games do have DX11 and DX12 launch options. It may or may not be something that SCS do, It is up to them what support they give, but with Vulkan and DX12 being added, there is more than DX12 support coming.

oh damn didnt know this game was going to get a new game engine in the coming years

Any idea what the minimum specs will be for PCs? I would think new engine would require more power. Or will the game be better optimized to run on some of these “potatoes” out there.
AyMazingATS Aug 20, 2023 @ 2:41pm
Most hardware made within the last 6 or 7 years is already capable of DX12. The question boils down to is which feature version of DX12 is SCS updating to. We will not know this until SCS releases the update.
