Any reason to not use the highest hp engines?
I know they consume more fuel, but other than that, is there any reason to not shove 600hp engine into every truck?

No. If you don't care about realism, fuel economy or so, you can put in whatever you like - and have the levels for. Money is not an issue in this game anyways. Play like you want.

As Mirko said, it is really only for realism. It can give you more challenge to use lower power motors for heavy loads, and is more realistic for regular transport, but there is no reason in the game to not use the biggest available motors.

I try to play with as much realism as possible, and role playing as well. I chose the highest hp engine available because I like doing heavy hauling. :) Just my thing.

One reason could be fuel consumption. With the weaker engines you don't have to stop for refueling as often as with the max power engines. At least if you've enabled the "Realistic Fuel Consumption" setting.

In ETS2 I currently use max 600 hp engines. It feels strange to pull heavy loads uphill at speed limit, not even slowing down.

In ATS max power is in the 600 hp range anyway (at least for the trucks I use) so there I go for max power.

Hi!

But low hp engines go more time at full throttle when accelerating.

IRL guy has told that Volvo 750 hp consumes fuel lesser than low hp engines.

Yeah I hear ya. Its not like money is an issue in this game anyway. Fuel mileage means nothing in ATS. No big deal to stop one or 2 more times on a road trip for fuel.

I've found myself lately enjoying using the lowest hp engines for some reason and I haven't gotten stuck yet. -shrug-

It's all about what is most fun for YOU in YOUR game, this is one of those aspects where there is no right or wrong :cozybethesda:

I think you can turn off fuel limit
check game setting in opening window
it should be there i'm checking now

Do those engine horse power, higher, more better speed when puling heavy load/trailer? I assumed that is only reason why upgrade engine horsepower to go faster on road when pulling trailer, but not need upgrade if one don't plan to pull heavy load or trailer, I guess?

Horsepower may be good for acceleration and coming up to speed, especially with heavy loads.

For higher top speed, a good gearbox is more important. A high ratio between engine RPM and wheel RPM.

In the game, any engine/gearbox can haul almost any load. Struggles more when using weaker engine but as long as it not stall it will be keep going albeit slow.

Ignore horsepower, which does not really have any effect in the game. Higher torque gives you better acceleration and probably higher speed uphill, but as @MagnusA sez above, top speed on level ground, in game, is a product of engine RPM and final drive (gearbox x differential) ratios and related to neither horsepower nor torque.
