Point of weigh stations?
While driving in ATS today, I was wondering what the point of weigh stations are in the game. They seem to just be cosmetic and that is all. I have never had a fine for being over weight. Will over weight trailers ever be a thing in ATS? If so, will we be able to slide our trailer axles? That would be cool for a future update.

Mostly cosmetic. It is possible to be overweight, though I don't remember if there is currently fines for it or not active.

You can slide your tandems in ATS, but only when not on a job. Which kind of defeats the purpose. You can also extend chassis trailers between 20ft and 40ft. F7 > Trailer Adjustment.

It would be great if axle weights were simulated in game, as well as individual states' rules regarding trailer tandems, especially California.

As it is now, there's also no reason to use any of the scales at the trucks stops either.

So much more could be added to this game besides new states.

Already happens in the game. Take a 53 foot with the tandems in the back and get stopped at a weigh station. You will get an illegal usage trailer fine.

Currently there are no fines for being overweight. I've been overweight a couple times with a full tank of fuel and a pretty heavy load going over the 80,000 pound legal limit by like a few thousand pounds.

There are permits that drivers can get for being over 80,000lbs in most states but this is mostly for heavy machinery which to my knowledge (was not a heavy hauler) still has to abide by axle weight limits. Also some states do allow vehicles over 80,000 lbs. 80k is the federal minimum.

To add to what others have stated. Weigh stations also do vehicle inspections. If your vehicle is damaged enough you will be fined for it. (though this system looks like it maybe enhanced one day due to some weigh stations new prefab discovery points, but thats just speculation on my part).

Yeah I have gotten a warning when the truck is too damaged at the weigh stations. Right now you just get fined if you bypass them but I think the bones are set for future development on this. (In such case I hope it's a toggle heh)

It's a joke. When they tell me to pull over I speed up and blow past. Never been chased down by a cop and never received a ticket.

Sure you get a ticket, unless you use a no penalty mod. Won't get chased down, the ticket comes automatically when you pass the transponder bridge for the reset of the electronic bypass system. You should hear an according sound effect as well.

Stuff creeps in already about them. There were times when you could use them with a truck beaten up to the point it would occasionally stall (20% damage or so) "All clear, have a nice trip". I also still have screenshot evidence of driving in California with a 53' trailer and the axles set back. Did not get a penalty back then (should have been 2019)

Or he's turned off fines in gameplay settings.

That no fines mod mod has never been useful since there is a option in the settings since I started playing.
2019 was before weigh stations got updated to issue illegal trailer usage and damage warnings - tickets. This was changed when CA 120 Yosemite was changed to not allow trailers through it.

Is there any point to the weigh stations you find at random truck stops? Not the ones on the highways that you get signalled to pull into, but the ones you typically find in city areas that also have combinations of rest/repair/fuel and that you can use voluntarily. They charge like $10 or something, but they don't seem to be actually implemented in any meaningful way.

No, in reality you use these to find out if you are legal on total and axle weights before the DOT does on one of their scales. As you don't get fined for overweight, there is as of now no use for these scales at truck stops.
_KC76_ Dec 28, 2023 @ 5:46pm
There is one use, relating to getting an achievement, and needing to be over a specific weight .. you can use the scales at truck stops to verify you have met the requirement.
MedJet Dec 28, 2023 @ 8:37pm
wouldn't be that hard to initiate overweight conditions. Up to drivers to check their weight using the scales at stops or else get popped when you are on a weight station. Course for the babies that need to toggle off everything but their ability to drive, yes, make it optionally, lest some drown in tears.
