Stock Truck Mods
Anyone know if you can still mod the stock trucks? I know you used to be able to with ETS2 but I can't get it to work any longer. Unless I am missing something.

What do you mean by "mod" .. like add accessories, bumpers/stacks/lights? Or actually make a Mod using the SCS trucks? or what?

i mean like horsepower values. I used to go to def --> engine and change the value there for a certain engine type and overwrite the current one and it would work or make another file like the current stock engine choices and change the parameters, save, and it work. That doesn't seem to work any longer.

Truck mods from the workshop work for a couple versions then don't. I haven't tried the paid ones. It's easier to alter the stock trucks

I don't remember ever being able to modify the compressed game files, and re-save/over-write the original game files IN the game installation ..

If you've already uncompressed the files, you can still modify them, and save them as a Local Mod, which is the standard method for "making a mod". Save the modifications in un-compressed ZIP archive format, and put them in your Documents\ATS\mods folder.

If you can not modify the files because they are compressed, you need to download the SCS Extractor tool from the SCS wiki site, and read the tutorial page for instructions.

Yeah I'm fairly certain with scs extractor you could just decompress the files then overwrite them; but it's been a while since I have done it on ETS2 or ATS so maybe I did another step to make it work idk haha.

With Steams file verification system, I don't see how that would be possible, as everytime there is an update, Steam Verifies that the files on your PC match what SCS says they should be, and if not, they get replaced with original files.

You can't re-pack the game files. You unpack them to get copies of the files that you then modify and pack into a mod. That mod goes into your mod directory. ;)
