The thing we don't have, what i think you do have here on PC, is the ability to back it up i guess in folders? We don't, i mean one bad update, or something or other, we're up a creek.
Users that create a new profile with an existing profile name find that they just create a new save with an existing profile. Did you active Steam cloud on the game or the profile - you must do both.
Is steam cloud showing as being unsynced or are you getting a different message.

If you were storing profiles and saves in your Documents folder and it was wiped, then you have lost them, unless you backed them up to another drive, or you were using the Steam Cloud save.
Cloud save must be turned on in the game and in Steam itself to work, you have to check this yourself.
If you were using the Cloud successfully before, then the save should still be there, if you activate it properly. If you have not backed up your old documents folder in an accessible place, then all the old saves are gone.
If you are seeing all your achievements for the game, then you have connected to your original profile for the game on Steam, but if you didn't use the Steam Cloud save before, it won't have any saves or profiles stored.
Lesson learned: in IT, always have an extra back-up, even for Cloud saves, at a location unconnected to your main PC. Just as true for home users as businesses.
So, just copy it off the old hard drive ?
To download your Saved Games from Steam Cloud, open https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage in your browser and sign into your account. Search for the game you want, then download your saves.
I'm just going to answer this part, as I don't use Cloud storage at all for anything. Achievements on Steam are stored by Steam as a separate thing entirely. They are not profile specific. They are game specific.
you are right Don, but you should tell everyone that you should NOT start the game again before you dl your saved files. I looked at ats dir and it was already written over the old data cause i started the game. but i dl the other saved game data that i didn't start yet.
dont know about that i have saves going back to September 22
One who surrenders his freedom for some small measure of convenience deserves neither freedom nor convenience.
If local saves are available for back-up I back up to a drive not on this PC and on this PC as well. Spinning rust conventional disk drives are cheap per Mb right now, so there is no excuse for not backing up important files.
