BNSF? What Happened to Union Pacific?
When or why did the railroad change? I was checking out real life track maps and it seems Union Pacific covers more of ATS' territory than BNSF so why the change, or why not incorporate both railroad giants into the game scheme? As an aside, BNSF has god-awful colors and a really bland, uninspiring logo.

You can not have mock-up companies be too close to real companies or you will get hit will a lawsuit.

Thus SCS changed some companies to be in safer water.

Yeah, but BNSF is a real company just as Union Pacific.

And neither is in the game without mods.

Really? What railway is in the vanilla version?

There used to be a "BFSN" or so - the letters of BNSF mixed up. And their locos were also orange. But alone that you think the original BNSF was part of the vanilla game is proof why they need to change that. Also Chemron gas stations have disappeared for that reason already.

Hmm ... I need to find some train mods ... maybe some LONG train mods ... cause 3 - 4 cars is fake as heck ... lol

Wow, I didn't even notice that lol. I haven't played for years, being a real life trucker and all, but I'm taking the winter off and got the itch to truck so I'm back. It's interesting how the game has changed over the years.

BNSF was funny about licensing for a while - hence there was no BNSF stuff in Train Sim World (other, older sims not marketed outside North America like Run8 were fine, I forget the reason why)

“BNSF” and “Union Pacific” impostors are both present in ATS, and have track sharing agreements in a number of places within the territory ATS covers, so I’m not sure what the problem here even is apart from being mad they’re not officially licensed participants in a trucking game.

BFSN (the original stand-in BNSF) was replaced with GARC, while the Union Pacific stand-in is still American Lines.

I believe that incorrect. GARC is a Texas company. You can still see BFSN running through Arizona and other states.

I was just about to say… GARC is likely a reference to the real Alamo Gulf Coast Railroad (AGCR)

Thanks, everyone, for your responses. When I loaded ATS earlier the load screen had an image of a BFSN train so I saw my answer right there. Seems I had been playing with a realism mod for so long I had eventually forgotten and just assumed Union Pacific and BNSF were part of the original version. I'll keep the mod running because I am for as much realistic immersion here as possible. Now if only I could actually stop at a McDonald's or Domino's and get something to eat thru the computer screen! :steamhappy:

The problem is irl, you aint getting into most of those places unless you're bobtail. On my route, since I drive at night and pull triples, I have the choice of carls jr and subway. I bring my own food lol.

That's interesting. Everywhere I've previously seen BFSN (including Arizona and all the way up in Portland) is now GARC. Not running any mods or anything so I'm not sure what the difference would be.
