ETS 2 is 5x more popular than ATS
Currently just over 6,000 people playing ATS on steam while over 31,000 are playing ETS 2.

Is that because ETS 2 is more fun to play or just because there are more people in Europe and they want to drive around in what is familiar? Asking for a friend.:dwarven:

This has been asked and answered hundreds of times on this forum. May I suggest a search instead?

No need to tell me to search its too late and I thought we needed a break from the following list:

Why does my game crash?
Crazy FPS drop
Can we get SCS to make 'xyz' truck in game?
Can we get 100% map completion?
What are the best mods?
What mods add realism?
Why do the engine sounds suck?
My truck has no engine sound?
My game crashes after the latest update?

etc. and here I thought I had a lesser used question. My bad. I'll go to my room and consider myself punished.:steamfacepalm:

I'll add more questions that people can search instead of asking:

When will the next state be released?
Are all 50 states going to be done?
When is Canada coming out?
Will SCS do South America?
What will the next state released be?
How many eggs are in a dozen?
Why won't SCS release legacy trucks?
Why do trucks called GMC trucks Jimmys?
Can u play this game online?
Why is there no seasons in game?
Why no snow?

Yea, sometimes the "regulars" can get a little snippy, but understandable with your list that you presented.
I think with your "currently playing"
6k ATS its early morning in the USA
31K in Europe (6 hours ahead I believe) so late afternoon/evening
So I just its just because of the time of day ...
BUT ... I should have SEARCHED the forum myself to see if I'm correct or way off base :-D

Nice attempt at trying to make me feel bad. Sorry it won't work. Shall you try for something that hasn't been done before?

Oh wait...I have been blocked by people, reported, and other things. Rehashing the same ETS2 vs ATS stuff is useless because the answer is the same every single time.

As for crashing, performance issues that does come down to a user's specific hardware, mods, and the like and each situation is unique..unlike this tiring argument.

Either way I won't have to see it again.

Just drop it my guy...

To answer OP: I think a part of it too is that the simulation genre just seems generally more popular in Europe. I notice the same trend in flight simulators and train simulators as well. There are just a lot more Euro players invested in the various hobbies.

Im quite sure that those numbers do not really relate to a game which is played by people all over the world.

One simple reason (besides that ets2 is out for a few years more then ats) is probably the map size & more variety in the locations.
Underscore_101_3 Feb 3, 2023 @ 9:23am
It's a whole bunch of reasons, ETS2 was there earlier, European (style) Trucks are used all over the world except the US (and maybe Canada), Conventionals are mainly used and sold in The US, Canada and Australia (and Mexico?) (Australia also has a high use of European (style) trucks).
Population of Europe is more than twice the size of the US population, in fact it's larger than 3 of the main markets for US conventionals (not counting Mexico because i have no idea what type dominates there), etc,...

On a personal note, what worries me is that average daily users and overall sales don't seem to go up for ATS that much, or fast with release of new map dlc, with ETS2 there always seems to be a faster rise and use, in current graphs it appears to flatten out a bit, but that's probably because of a lack of map dlc being released because of you know what :-)

For the first many years ETS2 was'nt as popular as it is today, I am convinced that ATS will gain traction as the years pass, just like ETS2 did.

I can only speak from my point of view. I have recently owned ATS and received it as a gift. Then I bought all the DLC's for ATS. I generally play ETS2 and still have a lot of things open that would have to be done (Steam achievements).

The reason that ETS2 is older, released earlier than ATS, I personally don't find as a reason that ETS2 has more players. Other successors have more players in the successor game than in the older one. Already because of the new graphics possibility, better game mechanics etc.

I would like to play ATS, but I am annoyed that I am limited in playing. This means that if I build something in ATS as in ETS2 (a company with drivers) then I can not act with the company worldwide. I will be tied to one continent. I would find it much more ingenious if I could translate from Europe to America and vice versa to do jobs on both continents.

It would be great if the developers could merge ATS and ETS2, but I don't see that happening. After so many years, the developers probably don't even know their way around their main program core. That's why nothing will be changed in the behavior of the vehicles (instead of hard lane changes of the AI, realistic soft lane changes, seasons, etc.). Too bad. But at least there are new buildings, roads and more cities will be developed.

One is even unable to integrate a button that triggers a bug report and sends everything the developers want.

And merging ATS and ETS2 would be hard programming work, because it would have to be checked if the user has bought both games, then an interface would have to be programmed, which would allow translating and the level system, driver system on both continents........ I wouldn't want to be a programmer there, although that would be an interesting challenge.

Well, that's why the game ATS lies fallow with me at least, although it would excite me to drive in another continent.

I am not, with ETS2 you see spikes and levelling off, but there's always a huge gain, with ATS there's hardly any gain, small spikes and leveling off again, over the same ammount of time ETS2 has grown substantially while ATS grows very slowly.
Except the past year because of HOR not being released.

I gotta ask ...
HOW would a train get from the USA to Europe and vice versa?
meatballs_21 Feb 3, 2023 @ 12:29pm
I really don’t understand this… you think a driver would follow their cargo on a ship across the Atlantic from North America to Europe or vice versa, and that this should be/is a commonplace practice that needs to be added to the games?

The same complaints for Verdun/Tannenberg/Isonzo that they’re in separate games and you can’t just flit between them (even though you sorta can - there’s a button to load one of the others if owned, but they’re all separate games with very different gameplay)

I just recently came back to ETS2, and although it wasn't always the case I think I prefer ATS now, to be honest. Although ETS2 has a larger map (I have all the expansions), about 75% looks all the same. Also, A.I seems to be a bit worse. Don't get me wrong, the very few portions of the newer map, are an absolute blast to travel through.

I do see why ETS2 is more popular through. It's older and the game which most of us started with. It also has larger mod support. I put way more hours into ETS2 as well.

However, I am from the US, and I prefer driving on the roads that I know, plus the trucks that I am familiar with. And where ATS stands now, it is slowly gaining the lead on ETS2, just by the map variety alone. Quality not quantity, I guess.

Playing today, I also thought it would be cool if somehow both games could be merged, so you can have only one company across both titles. Not share assets like trucks, obviously, as American trucks are not legal in most part of Europe, and vice-versa. Also not the map (that's kind of stupid). But manage the same employees and the company's monetary assets.

They are in the progress of updating their core game engine to run DX12. It is always being updated and improved. They have definitely not forgotten how to use their core code. They are a smaller dev, so they have to prioritize certain things at a time, and right now, that is the DX12 update on the core game side.
