why is this game so unoptimized compared to ets2?

i have welll above the recommended specs and im using a vanilla profile but sometimes the fps staggers between 47-61 usually approaching cities

save your ATS config.cfg and controls.sii files to a backup somewhere first, so you can restore them if things dont work.

May want to try this your choice. Ran ATS with the following GPUs. GTX 780 then a GTX 1080. OS 7 CPU I7 4930K. Note Running a new computer.

Clean Manual Install Nvidia Drivers "Only"

1. Down Load Driver direct from Nvida. Do "Not" use a driver installer.
1A. Please delete this folder. C:\Nvidia this is a decompressed driver installer folder. If it is there delete it. "Not" Required" If not please continue to step 2.
2. Control Panel_Programs and Features_Uninstall the following "Only" Nothing Else.
Nvidia Graphics Driver <version> uninstall it from windows. Leave the rest of the items alone.
Edit: Boot System Allow the system to fully Boot. Wait about 5 minutes.
1. Run the new driver installer. (Edit: Right click run as Administrator.) After the driver decompresses to the C:\NVIDIA directory and when the driver installer starts, Agree to the terms. "Note" Nvidia started offering the user to install with GEFORCE EXPERIENCE AND WITHOUT (JUST THE DRIVER) ALWAYS SELECT WITHOUT. DON'T INSTALL GEFORCE JUNK. iT WILL RUN IN THE BACK GROUND CAN CAUSE STUTTERING.
2. Select CUSTOM (ADVANCED) INSTALL and click next.
3. Please place a check in "Perform a Clean Install "Box"
4. If you do not use 3D vision drivers for 3D LCD monitor and 3D glass, UNCHECK.
5. "Nvidia GeForce Experience -UNCHECK- THIS MAY NOT SHOW UP IF YOU SELECTED TO NOT INSTALL THE DRIVER WITH GE-FORCE.
6. Click Next: The driver may do one of two things. Full install the selections, OR, it may request a reboot before running the driver installer. "Follow The Directions" In either case, once the driver has installed then "Reboot" regardless of if a Windows reboot is requested or not.
7. Go back to step 1. delete C:\NVIDIA Folder it is no longer "Needed"

If you have Nvidia Profile Inspector applied to ETS2_ATS and or other games NPI must "Be" reset.

Once back to desk top
1.RUN MSCONFIG (OS 7)_TASK MANAGER (OS 10) Under STARTUP TAB there is ANY entry for Nvidia Disable it. Re boot system.
2. Start SERVICES List In Windows: Scroll down to Nvidia Telemetry Container. Right click and select Properties. Click the Button to STOP the service. Then select the STARTUP TYPE drop down and select: DISABLED and the click apply.
3. Right click the desktop and select Nvidia Control Panel. Select the HELP menu. If they are selected, UNCHECK the following.

A. . DEBUG MODE
B. Allow Experience Imprvovment Program.

Just killed Telemetry from running in the back ground for Nvidia. Can Cause Stuttering. Uses system resources.

Nvidia Control Panel:

1. Right Tap Desk Top_Tap Nvidia Control Panel_Manage 3D settings
2. Tap Program Settings
3. select a program to customize:
4. Select Euro Truck and or American Truck Simulator.
5. Scroll down to Power Management mode & tap on it.
6. Set to Prefer maximum performance.

Edit: Note: Will "Not" over volt the GPU & or cause the GPU to run at 100%. Setting applies to load specific voltage to the GPU.

Once the above is completed. How to prevent a Nvidia graphics card from thermal throttling.

1. Down Load direct from msi.com. Unzip it and run as Administrator. If you decide to uninstall the Nvidia Graphics Driver thru control pannel Un install MSI first. Window will pop open. Tap save settings. Once the new Nvidia Graphics is reinstalled then re install MSI. The settings will be applied.
2. In the Afterburnner GUI, click on SETTINGS button at the bottom.
3. General Tab Check in START WITH WINDOWS, At bottom select NEVER in the drop down check for up dates. "No" need to up date MSI Afterburner since it is seldom Up Dated.
4. Fan tab put a check mark in Enable User Defined Software Automatic Fan Control. A Graph will appear. Mouse Pointer left tap can be used to drag & move the curve. At the 2 ends or anywhere in the middle by using an existing point. Click the line will create a new point.

Set the top end at 90c is thermal limit.
Set the lower end to 30c
Set the curve it will intersect at 50% fan speed when the core temp reaches 50c temp.

5. Monitoring Tab, Activate, Hardware Monitoring graphs, "Uncheck All" but theses 4 items.
GPU Temperature, Fan Speed, Core Clock, Memory Clock
Tap Fan Speed once go down to "Show In Tray Icon and uncheck i. Repeat for Core Clock, Memmory Clock. Leave GPU Temp enabled with "Show IN tray Icon".
6. GPU Temperature selected tap little color square box @ end of setting. Color excahngew window will pop open. Color Lime Green easy to see the color option is "Your Choice"
7. Interface Tab make sure in the User interface drop down select "DEFAULT MSI AFTERBURNER v3 Skin. Select larger (Big Edition) or standard size. Dependent on monitor resolution. "Do Not Close MSI".
8. Right click task bar/select properties_TASKBAR TAB click button under "Notification Area" that says CUSTOMIZE. Locate MSI Afterburner TEMP READOUT in the list. Set To "Show Icon and Notifications" Will display GPU temp in the tray at all times. Can choose "Not" to display.
"Note" Older cards or Windows 10 users may not have access to the settings below. If so skip to next step.
8. Newer Nvidia cards may have a 75c throttle limit. "Can Cause Stuttering" Bypass. Tap Black Arrow right side open the interface. Set Temp bar to 90c. Tap Apply Overclock Settings. Note: Do Not OC the GPU.
9. Tap Minimize icon in top corner. Do "Not" click x box and close. Minimize only the GPU temps will go to the tray & disappear automaticaly leaving the GPU temps displayed in the tray.
