Eventually they will get there.

American Truck Simulator Map DLC Clarifications [blog.scssoft.com]

"We surely do not plan to stop working on American Truck Simulator world with Arizona. However, please be aware that the road ahead of us is long, and it will take us years to cover the continent. We will continue to add features to the game with regular free updates, but most further map expansion DLCs, if not all, will be paid. We have had to pick a business model allowing us to build more than ten times the amount of content compared to what we are launching with. If you are looking forward to drive coast to coast, you will not be able to do that now, and it will cost you more eventually than the price of the initial purchase.

It would be great to get the chance to reach the East Coast, it would be fabulous to be able to push north towards at least 60 degs latitude and south towards the Equatorial. But ultimately, it is up to you, our fans, if this happen - you will vote with your wallets. We expect to get the right guidance from you on future growth of our team to handle the new opportunities and challenges."

This is the most up to date information. Even though this is from 2016 the same still holds true today.

Is there much OTR truck traffic at those locations? If not, they are not likely to appear...

Chicago is the scourge of Illinois, not a feature.

We are getting there. Just keep up your exercise, stay healthy and you will make it. I am waiting for the Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Yes, I've added them to the list of maps to be released. You're welcome.

Logic won't stop people from complaining about their absence. That's really what jmbode was getting at. Every new state brings about "where is...?"
They'll have to add armored trucks for driving through Chiraq and Deadtroit.

I-39-can avoid Chicago and toll both racketeering to most points south and east.

Thinking a little ahead of it, I'm expecting the huge disappointment of those waiting eagerly to New York like there's nothing else to be released meanwhile, and discover their beloved trucks aren't really welcome on Manhattan.

(Of course they could permit it using the same artistic license they used to add Yellowstone, but still it's not sure to happen)

and when we get Chicago DLC, there has to be random police chases and gun shot noises in the background. Even a reasonably high chance of being robbed while at a shipper or receiver and an even higher chance when the player stops at a truck stop.

I very much doubt that you will see anything like this. Reason being is this game is marketed for ages 3+.
