Peterbilt 579/Kenworth T680 updates.
New trucks in game are awesome, but what about updating Peterbilt 579/Kenworth T680? From what I understand those trucks was very first trucks in ATS, now they are 7(?) years old maybe it's time for some updates? I saw some videos on YT with "2022" updates for Peterbilt 579/Kenworth T680, those are very cool trucks.

SCS is probably not going to update these. If anything they will go for the Next Gen models of each and not touch either of these trucks.

SCS has not really touched any of the older trucks in ETS2 either.

Difference is that all older trucks in ETS2 are meanwhile out of production. Some (e.g. MAN TGX Euro 5, Mercedes Actros MP3) even were already so on publication of the game as their models were taken over from earlier games.
Trucks that are still in production and just received a facelift will get this as optional parts in ETS2. Examples are the MAN TGX Euro 6, DAF XF 106 and Renault T-Series. So this would be the way to go for ATS as well.

However, as usual this is up to licensing, so not only SCS need to make the 3D models but Paccar also have to approve them,

They all need twin side exhaust. They are funny looking without them. The behind cab exhaust don't do anything but fill the reefer engine with bad sooty air and causes problem for them.

It's a licensing issue so you're unlikely to ever see 'updates'.

As for the newer versions though? Try finding a PR contact email for Kenworth and/or Peterbilt and send a short, polite message saying you'd love to see them work closer with SCS software to bring their newer vehicles into American Truck Sim.

Will it really do anything? Almost certainly not but at least you can say you tried.

Also some companies are more willing to work with SCS than others. Not sure how Ken or Peter are, but DAF for ETS2 has multiple models including a newer one.

There is also the severe lack of competition holding them back. There is no game in existence or in development getting anywhere near to what ATS and ETS2 have to offer in their current state. So they get away with "good enough" content like the International 9900 or the latest Western Star which is a modified Freightliner. This isn't ill intent but sound management.

Umm...what exactly is wrong with the 9900?

And regarding the 57X...as Western Star and Freightliner are both owned by Daimler, NA what did you expect?

Where exactly did I write that anything was "wrong" with those trucks?
AyMazingATS Dec 5, 2022 @ 4:38pm
What did you mean by "good enough?"
wullack Dec 5, 2022 @ 4:43pm
Well, as in "good enough". Like "could have been better, could have been worse". "Release it, it's good enough to be sold".

A lot of the trucks do come down to licensing and what can be added. The manufacturer's do contain control over what we see on the trucks.

If the manufacturer says no to an accessory part then SCS has no choice but to remove said part. Manufacturer's also need to give the ok the release of the truck too.

Like I said: from a customer perspective I strongly believe, we'd have a much better product at our disposal if there had been a serious competitor around.

Give Train Sim World 3 a try and you’ll see a much more tangible example of a “good enough” than this. Note the higher add-on price tags, lack of mods and two engine enhancement full-price “sequels” as you go.

Your complaint that the 57X is just a modified Freightliner could be well adapted join those currently complaining the new class 323 train that got added is “a reskin of a 166 with a pantograph”.

They are older than that. An ancient blog post from scs in september 2013 showcased a complete peterbilt 579. In april 2014 they posted the kenworth T680.
