Recommendations for a quality wheel and pedal?
I am contemplating buying a wheel and pedal setup, mostly for this game but will likely be used in others as well.
I am curious as to what you guys would recommend and what setups you're using.
I did a little research and and found the Thrustmaster T300 RS GT. It looks decent, no shifter though, just paddles on the wheel. Has anyone used this?

T300 is a great wheel. Lots will say this.

No wheel/pedal today is going to include a shifter with it. The TH8A is a full metal shifter. Compared that to the Logitech Driving Force shifter which is all plastic.

Matter of fact...I don't recommend any Logitech wheel for ATS/ETS2. Their force feedback isn't the greatest(in ATS/ETS2), the wheels feel "notchy" because of their helical gear system. Thrustmaster T300RS uses a combination of belts/pulleys for force feedback.

The plus side to that specific wheel is changing out the wheel rims, if you ever wanted to.

I use the G29 and the shifter and it works great. It's a good wheel for ATS/ETS2.

Thrustmaster TMX

It's been an awesome wheel and pedal set for the price.

ATS and ETS2 are not very demanding of a wheel or its force feedback, so even those with deep pockets need not consider the more expensive wheels that you might opt for if you were setting up for a serious racing game. I've been using a G25 for all these years and have never felt any notchyness to it in any game.
The TH8A is worth every penny but costs a LOT of pennies...I would hate to go back to the plastic hunk of junk that came with my Logitech. For ATS/ ETS2 I think that it is clearly superior to the Fanatec.
I would also hate to be without a load cell brake pedal, where brake force is proportional to pedal pressure rather than distance you have pressed the pedal. Again, not as big a deal in ATS/ETS2 as in racing games where it is a night and day difference.
If I were starting out and not contemplating any of the higher quality stuff I expect I'd build up a Thrustmaster system. Balance budget and wants/needs and good luck! :cozybethesda:

I agree totally with this post. I have a T500 RS and a TH8A shifter. I also had a G29 and have a G920 and a driving force shifter. Everything AyMazingATS said is correct. There is one thing he didn't mention and that is the Logitech wheels also rattle when driving on rough surfaces. So not only do the Logitech wheels feel notchy they rattle as well along with having crap FFB for ATS and ETS2.

I am not saying Logitech wheels are no good but for ATS and ETS2 the Thrustmaster are far superior.

If you only play ATS/ETS2, then Logitech will be ok. If you play any other driving games - especially racing - then do yourself a favour and buy better. Thrustmaster or Fanatec.

Have a look at this list to get an idea of how things stack up generally.

The key difference between Logitech and Thrustmaster/Fanatec is the geared drive vs belt drive (skip the TM wheels with hybrid drives). Belt drives are much smoother and provide stronger, more detailed force feedback. They're also quieter.

The Thrustmaster T300 is an great base at a decent-ish price but I wouldn't recommend the T3PA pedals, they're not really any improvement over the Logitech. The T3PA-Pro pedals are a significant improvement but will up the price a fair bit - even more so if you add a load cell kit (highly recommended).

I definitely recommend the TH8A shifter, its an excellent piece of hardware.

^^ what he said, just get the logitech, yes it will be a bit notchy and rattle a bit but it's just not worth paying the extra just for this game cause the ffb is very basic, a t300 will be wasted on this game

Actually the T300 isn't going to be a wasted purchase. The OP did say the wheel would likely be used in other games.

Also a G29 normally retails for $399, the same as the T300. T300 is a no brainer purchase.

I would take superior build quality with a smooth wheel that one that shakes and rattles any day of the week.

ah yeah missed that bit, t300 then or if you want to spend more look at the thrustmaster ts-pc racer, another awesome wheel, then you also have fanatec wheels but haven't tried one of those...yet

This instant 30 seconds of looking online found the G29 at $239 where the T300 was $346, but they are not comparable wheels. If I just was going to do ATS/ETS2 I'd get the Logitech and have a TH8A three quarters paid for, but if I was also going to do realistic racing I'd spend on the Thrustmaster.

The reason why I always recommend Thrustmaster over Logitech for ATS and ETS2 is because of the lack of FFB in both games. The Logitech wheels work fine in other games but for some reason they do not work well for ATS and ETS2. The notchy feeling and the rattle is minor although annoying but it is the FFB which is the main problem.

I know price is an issue for some people but if they really want a wheel which will work well in ATS and ETS2 then Thrustmaster is a far better choice than Logitech. I have had both and there is a huge difference between them.

unless you plan to play the living CRAP out of racing games day in and day out for years on end just go with the logitech. i have the 29 and it works great for ets and ats. if that does define you, or you just gopt money to blow, then sure. go for the 'better' fanatec. etc.
the guy who said the G29 costs 400 bucks has not bothered to actually look and should be ignored anyways. heres one for 214 with free shipping and it took me 5 seconds to find.

I have a Logitech G27 that I'm happy with. I do notice the "notchy" feeling that others have mentioned though.

Telling me I should be ignored...whatever. I'm well aware the G29 is on sale for far below retail. Hence why I said "normally retail" or did that little fact slip your mind? :steamfacepalm: :steamfacepalm: Look at the crossed out price, which is MSRP. :steamfacepalm: :steamfacepalm:
