Do I have to actually drive to pick up freight with my own truck?
If yes then how is it worth the time or effort over quick jobs? Seems like a pain having to contantly worry about where the job is and where it's going.

higher payout per mile, best suggestion is to pickup a load in the same city you are in or one real close by if that works out better. or enable the dev console and teleport to whatever city you want.

Just pick up a load in the same city your currently in, if you do that then your not spending extra cash just to bob tail to a different city to pick up a load. Not really a pain at all either, you select what load you want and the GPS will route you there, you pick it up and the GPS will route you to your destination.

What they said. When you are in the map showing all the loads, click on the city you are in. This will limit the jobs and show you just what is available in the city you are in.

These things are kind of the whole point of trucking. Without them you're just a tourist.

Seems a bit pointless driving the truck at all, right?

You can always continue doing quick jobs if you wish. To be able to access your garage you do need to buy a truck and then that will open your garage. That will give you space in your garage only for your own truck. However, if you upgrade your garage that will give you 3 spaces in your garage and then you can hire a driver who can drive your truck and you can still continue to do quick jobs if you wish.

The game has freedom, so if you do not want to do jobs in your truck you can simply continue doing quick jobs and if you wish you can buy a truck and just use it to drive freely on the map without doing any jobs, just exploring.

The way you play the game is entirely up to yourself. By the way, there is an excellent guide to the game by Xpliciit in the Guides section at to top of the screen. It has a huge amount of information about the game.

Anyway, just enjoy the game the way you want to play it.

Delivering cargo with your own truck you earn much more money than quick jobs. With money you can buy more and better trucks to drive.

Pick up a load, deliver it to a location and then from that location or one close by; pick up another load and deliver it elsewhere. Repeat for the rest of eternity.
...or you can...:
{LINK REMOVED}

copy destination for pickup delivery

~` then paste CTRL+V
Enter
~` again
Move mouse in the direction you want your truck
F9 - to place truck
Your key previously programmed for your preferred view.

Pick up, and go.

-----
You can even do the same with the delivery to quickly up on money, deliveries. The distance and XP will not grow however.

Is it cheating? For some it will be. But as long as you do not cheat on distance traveled or cheat on realtime game play, I do not concider it as cheating.
