Not sure I have ever seen a kingpin camera on a real truck, but I have been out of the loop for a while.
I don't have a problem with backing into it. Soon after ATS came out I would try to back in as close to the trailer center as possible so the trailer would not move when I hit the button to connect it. I was never perfect so it would move a bit, but I kept the movement to a minimum. I think this has made this option pretty easy. I think they have a little give in it as well.
You might try turning the option off and practice backing in with minimal trailer movement on connection. After some practice you should have no problems with the advanced connection option on.
Truckers IRL dont have any aids to help line up to connect to a trailer, its all about skill and knowledge, thats what the game is trying to get ou to use with the Advanced Coupling Option, adding a special camera that allows you to cheat and see how off you are when reversing just defeats the object of the option, thats why its an option, if you cant reverse proerly, dont use the option, if you can, use it, simple.
Haha I was pretty much the same way. Toggled Advanced Coupling on, and backed in expecting a challenge, but would you know it, nailed it the first try. Was expecting a much more difficult challenge, but all those years of playing ETS2 and now ATS have made it a cinch.
I agree, I only mentioned the console command because I watched Squirrel use it. When it comes time for me to play Arizona I will be choosing the Advanced Coupling option and not using the camera.
If at first I don't do it properly then I will persist until I do. That is the way I have always played the game.
Well in real life, you can lean forward and look much closer in the mirrors, lean out more easily etc. In the game, your field of view is more restricted, the resolution is lower, and unless you have VR or TrackIR, you're more "rigid" and can't look around as easily. So a few extra view modes are not "cheating" IMO, you're just compensating for the lower fidelity of the simulator vs real life.
not to mention that coupling up a saddle trailer is so damn easy, it´s not really a challenge... :)
Many vehicles have optional automatic reversing cameras these days.
