- Yes, every player of ETS2 wanted them for the past 4 years
- So why we still don't have them ?
- Because the game is unable to do it
- Are you sure ? How do you know ?
- It's the only answer to that exact question for the last 4 years.
- But I've seen mods so you're wrong
- All these mods have the same limitation.
Personally, I want to go gallivanting about in a turnpike double (two 48's or 53's!). Why does no one mention these?!?! Dx
The engine has been proven to be fine with them. (couple years ago, a post on the old MP forums showed a proof of concept) The physics engine though, would require a bit of re-work among other things.
Basically, you and 109324712300987 other people want more pivot points in the game.
Ahem ... This is litterally how the guy did it ... The code needed for the double pivot point is already in the exe ... He then manipulated that code to create that MP video ... Besides, SCS already knew how to do it in 2011.
But beyond the code, the map of ETS2 is not build to accomodate double-trailer, the roads are too narrow and the roundabouts are too small. In Sweden, they're only allowed on some specific highways, nowhere else in Europe. Maybe it's another story about ATS since these roads are way bigger. I wonder if SCS didn't already said something about resurrecting double-trailers.
The game is able to do it, it's just not terribly good at it. The best I've seen the engine do is B-Train trailers, and even then, they were using B-Trains to emulate a 48 footer and a pup trailer. The result was the pup trailer's dolly was being pulled all sorts of ways willy-nilly, and you could see it moving sideways, rigidly fixed to the front of it's trailer, when it should have been turning independently.
This was in ALH (18 WoS: ALH, or 18 Wheels of Steel, American Long Haul).
They could probably improve on that and re-implement it, like they could restore trailer ownership. But I guess they have other priorities.
Edit: I, for one, am grateful they haven't given us that. Backing up the faux 48-footer and pup trailer, which was really a B-Train, was pretty damned hard. In ALH, there were no schedules to keep, and it could take me a week or more to get an articulated trailer parked!

You're talking about one of the 18WoS game, which could do it. We're talking about ATS, which can't ... Also, there is Extreme Trucker in Australia, which had road-train and could do it perfectly, not willy-nilly.
But then...it will take 3 hours to park them... ;-) oh I want to try it ! Let's get them !
