Wheel base?
Quick question, would your steering be affected by the wheel base of your truck, like stock trucks vs mod trucks with long frame options? I ask this cause I pulled a mod trailer weighing 123k lbs, and found the trucks steering was bad?

Longer the wheelbase the wider the turning radius

Ya I knew that, maybe I didn't provide a little more detail to what I was asking. For example, when you have more weight on the drives your front tends to "do a wheelie" meaning the steer tires have little contact with the ground, meaning when you turn the wheels the truck is pushed forward even though the tires are turned, the truck stays straight, now we know this to be accurate in real life, but what I'm curious about is that does this game have those same kind of physics, like for example would a short wheel base truck have better contact with the steers vs a long wheel base on heavy loads?

already happenned to me but i had bad rig for an 90 K load, i wasnt able to steer at all
i would actually visually see the tire about half an inch away from the tarmac in the air while pulling !!!

that load was a pain to drive as i had to ram brake to be able to trun to have wight transfered in front ! dont know if the game handled it correctly or it was way abused, i removed the mod for the time being as the only jobs was the american trailer everywhere and only this ! it drove me nuts and instead of just editing the mod for newer version i just forgot about it

So yes, happenned to me ~! dont know if it was meant to be or some sort of SCS limitation in weight by the game.... but the way you describe it seems what was happening to me

Is there any advantage to a long wheel base in the game?

you can carry bigger fuel tanks

You look cool

in the game no in the real world yes longer wheel base smoother ride and if your a flat bed hauler u can accomidate a longer load do to ur cab is further away

Ah I see so in the sim, especially ETS where there are tighter spaces, no point in the longer chassis.

I gotta agree w/ Hylton Trucking on this one.

Longer the Wheel Base = The Cooler you look.

Yes... and no.

This will have very little to do with the wheelbase length (and, if anything, the shorter wheelbase chassis will be more prone to steering axle lift). If you're using all vanilla vehicles, then no, you won't have any noticeable difference in steering due to load weight as the SCS vehicles will all be correctly configured. If using mod vehicles then it depends entirely on the given mod & how it was configured.

The main things that will affect the weight over steering wheels is the truck's chassis unit(s) configuration (that the weight over axles are correctly balanced); the turntable node position in the truck's 3D model and the load's centre-of-mass position in the trailer configuration.

No combination of the vanilla vehicles suffer from this problem, if you're experiencing it then chances are pretty high that a mod is causing it. If it's not an incorrectly positioned turntable node, then it's easy enough to fix. If it is the turntable node, then you'll need to be able to edit the 3D model to correct it.

Really depends on what you're after. Me, personally, I use the long chassis even on the daycabs because I prefer the greater challenge when reversing into those tighter docks.
