FOV and Camera
I can't find the FOV slider most games have, nor the camera sensitivity in first person. I use an Xbox controller to drive. Any and all help is appreciated.

There isn't a FOV slider, per se; you can adjust the seat position so you can see more on the screen, but I'm not sure if there's a way to change the angular size of the camera in-game.

You should look into the options menu, the "camera sensitivity" options are either in the 'key-binding' or 'controls' tab.

The FoV is set by the game files, not the config files. Any changes should be made through a mod, not impossible but tedious.

"def\camera\units\interior_truckname.sii"
is where you'll find the necessary file to edit.
Good luck :)

The FOV option I use is in the Config. Seat adjustment has little to do with FOV though it may seem it does. Go to Documents\American Truck Simulator then open the config with a text editor and change
"uset r_multimon_fov_horizontal "50" to your preference. Maybe this doenst work with a single monitor? I never tested that.

If you took a piece of cardboard and cut it out to the same dimensions as your monitor/monitors then sat in your car/truck with it in fornt of your face you could see what a "proper" Fov should look like. You will not likely get exactly 1:1 with a monitor but a compromise where you can still see guages/mirrors yet still be as close to 1:1 with reality as possible. As you move that piece of cardboard in front of your face back and forth you will see how it effects Fov. Also, when driving down the road in game move your face really close to the monitor then back away and tell me what you see.

The closer you can get to 1:1 with reality the easier it is to judge distances and the perception of speed changes dramtically (as you should have seen in step above). The only thing worse than watching a guy with incorrect FOV seemingly going about 150mph is watching a guy "Roof Ride", which happens in this game far too much for them to call it a Simulator of anything.

Fov is wildy important to any game that calls itself a Simulation. At least until we are all using Occulus or Vive. HMDs.

Most importatnt advice, ditch the gamepad and get a real wheel. Thrustmaster TX base is an excellent choice ;)

Assetto Corsa coming to a gaming console near you real soon and you need a real wheel for that one ;)

Thanks for the tips, I guess changing FOV to see more to the side would in effect probably mess up depth of field so, I'll leave that. As for the wheel situation, I've got no problem with my controller, it works great, I don't have trouble turning, nor are the controls messy, since I've made them suit my needs

You want to use Fov to set up how much you see of the mirrors/guages. Then once you get a rough setting for Fov you can use the Adjust seat for fine tuning. You might just try an extreme like say, 40 and then 60 just so you can clearly see what they do. Then you can adjust better knowing the limits (though 40 and 60 arent limits by any means just a rough guess based upon my setup).

For stock trucks you can try any of these from the workshop, except those saying "mirror":
