G29 - Maintenance Question
Just bought a G29 steering wheel + pedals (will have a logitech GForce Driving H-Shifter in a few days). Is there anything special I need to do so this wheel and shifter lasts for years to come?

I know the obvious things like not spilling anything on it or dropping it on the floor, but anything that's not so common-sense?

Some of the games (Next Car Game in particular) have the force-feedback pretty high - should I lower the settings so the motors don't wear out?

Any tips would be helpful. For $350 total, I want this to last for a while! Thanks.

P.S. I posted this in ATS b/c majority of the players are older and/or more mature and value their opinion more so than in some of the other games where trolls are rampant.

Hi! I have used g27/29 wheels many years. They have gearbox, not like belt driven other makers. So I haven't got any problems with wheels. Only they are noisy and not that accurate but they last over this genereration easily. :=)

Have experience with g27, make sure you keep you're pedals dust free, they can become a little sticky, though ats you can set a deadzone, but not all games.

Run a vacuum cleaner over it and keep the dust off, basically keep it clean. Make sure you check that it is tightened to the desk from time to time. I remember playing Project Cars with my G29 and ended with the wheel on my lap because it had come off the desk. Apart from that, just a small amount of conditioner for the leather occasionally. Probably not needed but then again wouldn't hurt it either. That is basically the only maintenance you need to do for any wheel.

Regarding the settings, yes lower them in games to be comfortable. Some games can be rather violent with the wheel on high settings and as I mentioned above, unless you have it bolted down you could end up with it on your lap. The wheel is very good and reliable but not indestructible, there will be wear and the less trauma it receives, the better for the wheel.

I turned Engine FFB all the way off in ATS, since it made the wheel rattle like my brother in law's testicles. Not nice.

Turn the FFB back on, roughly about halfway. Then turn the vibration parameters down, particularly for the engine. See if that helps - assuming you hadn't tried that already of course.
Thanks for the advice guys!

I think I'm going to buy one of those racing wheel stands....currently have my wheel and H-shifter on a sturdy, wooden dinner tray-table, but it moves around a little bit on really sharp, fast turns. It's sitting on wood floor and not carpet, so that doesn't help things either, lol.

Hey, which brand is it? I was looking at amazon and ebay and saw a few different ones. The highest rated is around $160 - forgot the brand name :/ There is another one, around $99 that looks solid, but it doesn't have a shifter mount, just wheels & pedals.
