Why does leaving the parking brake on make me lose air pressure?

in real life if the trucks on, it wont have a impact on losing air pressure. but if you turn off the motor while leaving the parking brake on it will lose air pressure through the air lines

How do trucks stop rolling when they are parked?

A technicality, but its actually an engine. Motors are electrical.

"through the airlines"?
You mean there's air in the airlines?

If the air tanks drop pressure overnight whilst the vehicle is parked, then there's either a leak somewhere (1st guess: Connection from truck to trailer, 2nd guess: regulator valve, 3rd guess: tank>line connection) or there's a buildup in the waste tank.

there are usually more than enough spots where air can escape...slowly, but ususally enough for you having to build it up in the morning. I personally did never encounter a truck that didnt lose pressure over night... and i drove fairly new ones, too

the parking brake is a different thing than the normal brakes... normal brakes use air pressure to brake, parking brakes use air pressure to get lose... so if there is no air pressure in any of the circuits, the parking brake cant be disengaged. In short and simplified: The air pressure is used to press against a spring... if that spring is released (by releaving the air), the parking brake brakes... it´s often used for as an "emergency brake system", which will stop the truck if it suddenly loses air...

same for the trailer... if let´s say you lose the trailer and both tubes (main line and security line) get ripped off, the trailer loses all air immediately and brakes...

Only way I've lost air pressure like that was if my truck was damaged

U shouldn't lose air while the truck is parked overnight. If your tanks are empty by morning then it is time to get the leak in the air system fixed.

Uhmm Your supposed to drain your tanks at the end of the shift / day anyway so what does it matter

must be a company specific thing... but it could make sense tbh :)

realistically if your truck looses air overnight it does have a leak and said leak should be looked at, however as mentioned above you should drain your tanks everyday for 2 reasons,

1; an air compressor makes condensation and removing the air from your tanks helps with that,

2; as part of your air brake pretrip ( wich im sure no one does) the tanks need to be emptied anyways.

1.Excatly and their is not a thing less fun than fighting froze up air syestem in the middle of winter because some yoyo could not take 40 seconds to drain the tanks the night before ...

2.. Excatly
