Mirrors
Am I missing something? I play Euro Truck with right-side drive and I put on the "virtual" left mirror for ease (playing on controller) and therefore I can use the physical truck mirror for my right side and the virtual one for left.

In American Truck Simulator, I haven't found a truck yet where the driver side mirror isn't so far out or back that I can see it! I have to adjust the seat so far back that I can barely get a good view out of the windshield.

Am I missing a setting or are American Trucks just weird?!

That is how a lot of the trucks are. Try the Kenworth T680. The mirrors should be what you want there.

Perhaps a FOV adjustment? I generally have no issue having the driver's side mirror visible as I drive, I think in any of the trucks.
Edit: I do use TrackIR whic makes it all a LOT easier

Many trucks are like that. There are some models that have better mirror positions. The W900 and 49X were both decent, and the two trucks I have spent the most time driving. Some, like the Anthem, are really hard to see the mirrors.

For almost all ETS2 Trucks(I think the Stralis Hi-Way is the exception), 80 FoV with the seat all the way back will get the left mirror visible. The ATS trucks that aren't International or Mack will also work with that setting, and the International LT and LoneStar will work if you up the FoV to 85. For the 9900 and Anthem, I'd just turn on the left virtual mirror, but the actual 'physical' mirror's presence is probably going to be a little annoying whenever you want to look out the left side window for oncoming traffic at an intersection.

I CAN eventually get the mirror in but I feel like Stretch Armstrong, like my arms would be 6 feet long to reach the steering wheel and looking out the front is like a Hitchcock pull shot!

Try mods that bring the mirrors closer to the cab.

Kenworth T680 or Peterbilt 579 are probably the only ones due to their wide driver cabs. European trucks have flush sidewalls. US trucks are wider at the sleeper than at the driver cab. To see along the side of the sleeper, the mirrors are further outside.
The 50 year old Peterbilt 389 and Kenworth W900 cabs and the also the Mack Anthem cab (based on the roughly 30 year old CH series cab) are worst because they have the narrowest driver cabs. The rest is somewhere in between.

I currently have the Freightliner Cascadia.

FOV - 75%
Seat - Fully back.

You can see about 3/4 of the steering wheel and the left mirror. Not all of it, (most of it) but it's enough. :104:

I had the same issue with several trucks, hence my love of the T680. I tried to work around it by adjusting the FOV and turning the camera slightly to the left.

Sadly, it’s down to the real life models. It’s not just trucks: in OMSI2, some buses modelled had mirrors well placed, others (like the Solaris Urbino) had them way up high and required pushing a button in order to glance up at them. Precision maneuvering, which in reality would be easily done with a quick glance around, was far more difficult as a result.

It's good to hear I can buy my way into the solution with the right truck. Can't remember if it lets you sit inside it before purchase though. Don't think it does so more suggestions on trucks with sensible mirrors appreciated!

Its not quite the same, but you can select the Cabin Interior when customizing a new truck before buying. It does not give the full picture, but will give you an idea of mirror placement, and show you how you think the mirrors will be seen when you set up the seat position correctly.

Take a quick job with a truck that interests you and you'll find out if the interior and/or the mirrors are deal breakers.

I use a mod that gives the option in truck config to remove the standard mirrors and to replace them with mirrors that are inside the cabin so that all you have to do is look up and to slightly to the left on your screen and not in game. Here's the link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2538718396
I will mention that I use this in my modded profile(s) and not my main as I want my main 100% vanilla, just thought this would help you.

Well it seems from the comments that US trucks are just weird. I have the same problem and find it very frustrating. I understand "true to form" but I'd like to be able to see the mirrors from a good driving posi
