The only other way would be for SCS to sub-contract making the console port to another developer but this would then mean that SCS get LESS money from game and content sales on console because the sub-contracted developer would be entitled to a portion of the sales money.
i SUSPECT that SCS are waiting until significant development of ETS2 has ended so that they can then use those freed up staff to develop console ports but this is probably 3-5 years away at least
Additionally, they'd have to rework the engine again to use a new renderer for the PlayStation, as that one does not have DirectX/D3D.
And we all know the poor state of the OpenGL renderer.
It plays pretty good too (the controls decent), and you get the mods from the Steam Workshop. You may actually still prefer it that way over consoles given all the mods you can get.
Yeah i think i heard the same. They "want" to do it, they just keep seeming to put it off for one reason or another.
I don't completely buy that. Plenty of people are already playing in VR. It can't be any more complicated that MS Flight Sim which has even more controls and plenty of people play that in VR.
and I assume to ideally play VR flight sims you need to use a flight stick with extra buttons on it.
Unless they did that already. I use a controller playing thru an Xbox One on ge force now, and the controls work pretty good. You don't get near everything, but def the basics.
There's certainly something to do with controller only gameplay for ATS, Asobo acheived it for Flight simulator 2020 on Xbox, and Flight simulator is way more complex than ATS. Giant Software did it for their farming simulator too, so appart for time and ressources, SCS should not have any reasons not to acheive it too.
A worldwide survey by Statista from 2020 said that 40% of gamers plays on mobiles, 28% on consoles and 21% on PC. Gaming market revenues in 2020 are as follow, 86,3 billions on mobiles, 51,2 billions on consoles and 37 billions on PC, so it's fair to say that console gaming is strong, stronger than pc gaming in fact ( I didn't tought so). I play ATS on my PC using a controller too and appart from some fonctions, it plays pretty well.
