ATS and ETS Coming To The PS5 and Xbox Series X
Hi this is a question for SCS Software,

I was wondering if SCS is currently working on porting your games, ETS and ATS to next gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X ? Many people from both communities are asking for ETS/ATS to come to Next Gen Consoles, as currently there is no good trucking games for either consoles. It would be a great opportunity for SCS and would bring thousands more gamers to both games.

I think with the huge popularity of Sim games right now and how powerful the next gen consoles are that this is best time to have both games ported. I am in a bind now because I really want to play ETS and ATS but I don't currently own a Gaming PC, I could buy one but if ETS/ATS gonna go to consoles I might as well save my money and buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X instead.

Thanks so much

you can ask that question on SCS Forums

This interview was in 2018 and Squirrel interviewed Pavel Sebor (CEO of SCS Software) and they discussed many things including ATS and ETS2 and consoles. It is the only information I have seen about it.

it is apparently on the wishlist of things to do EVENTUALLY but is not a prioriry. SCS is only a small company and if they took staff off working on the PC games to do console ports it would cause significant delays in producing content for the PC version of the games.

The only other way would be for SCS to sub-contract making the console port to another developer but this would then mean that SCS get LESS money from game and content sales on console because the sub-contracted developer would be entitled to a portion of the sales money.

i SUSPECT that SCS are waiting until significant development of ETS2 has ended so that they can then use those freed up staff to develop console ports but this is probably 3-5 years away at least

The game would need to be improved quite a bit to be usable on consoles.

Additionally, they'd have to rework the engine again to use a new renderer for the PlayStation, as that one does not have DirectX/D3D.
And we all know the poor state of the OpenGL renderer.

I too would love to see it on consoles. I also was pushing for that. But you can play it on Xbox One and the Series S or X thru GE Force Now on the Edge browser. All you need is Xbox, free Ge Force Now service and Steam.

It plays pretty good too (the controls decent), and you get the mods from the Steam Workshop. You may actually still prefer it that way over consoles given all the mods you can get.

I heard somewhere ( maybe in the interview with Squirrel) that scs wnats to bring ATS and ETS2 to consoles but not until they can bring it as it is on PC, they want console users to have the same experience than PC players. And I think Pavel said that it will not be before the games uses DirectX 12, at least for the Xbox. On the playstation, since it don't use DirectX, it's probably less easy to port over there.

Yeah i think i heard the same. They "want" to do it, they just keep seeming to put it off for one reason or another.

Sony should help them out and convince them to not only bring it onto the PS5 but also add in proper VR (no beta branch stuff). I think the game could do very well when PSVR2 is released.

I dont think this game can be fully VR compatible, ever. There are too many controls, and other functions, that do not/would not work implemented into VR. A big issue would be steering, as the best way to play in VR is to have a wheel as well, which means the game is not VR standalone. It may be possible to drive using just controller joysticks and such, but it would still not be able to do everything the game allows you to do.

I don't completely buy that. Plenty of people are already playing in VR. It can't be any more complicated that MS Flight Sim which has even more controls and plenty of people play that in VR.

i assume by controls they meant like steering.
and I assume to ideally play VR flight sims you need to use a flight stick with extra buttons on it.

Playable in VR, and VR Compatible are two different things. At the moment, VR for this game is just for head movement/looking around. There is no hand controls for VR, nothing to interact with, and no way to play through a VR system alone. You MUST use other controllers, Keyboard, Wheel, etc to play. The VR headset just replaced the screen with how it works now, and I dont see it changing. Maybe its possible, but I find it unlikely. I would find it difficult to drive in this sim using VR controllers, especially if you intend to use hand controls, where you actually grab the steering wheel and move your hands to steer.

They also recently said in a stream that they make controls for people who use controllers easier ( they implemented easier way to use controllers lately in the game) for their future plans to bring the game on "other platforms".....Do they meant the Steam deck or something else? We'll probably see in a not so far future.

Unless they did that already. I use a controller playing thru an Xbox One on ge force now, and the controls work pretty good. You don't get near everything, but def the basics.

There's certainly something to do with controller only gameplay for ATS, Asobo acheived it for Flight simulator 2020 on Xbox, and Flight simulator is way more complex than ATS. Giant Software did it for their farming simulator too, so appart for time and ressources, SCS should not have any reasons not to acheive it too.

A worldwide survey by Statista from 2020 said that 40% of gamers plays on mobiles, 28% on consoles and 21% on PC. Gaming market revenues in 2020 are as follow, 86,3 billions on mobiles, 51,2 billions on consoles and 37 billions on PC, so it's fair to say that console gaming is strong, stronger than pc gaming in fact ( I didn't tought so). I play ATS on my PC using a controller too and appart from some fonctions, it plays pretty well.
