As for content besides the maps, each has roughly the same amount of trucks I think (ETS may have a few more) and ETS has more tuning and paint options. Trucks are always free in both games when they add but maps and most other things are by DLC but not too expensive (especially when on sale).
ETA: It's nice to bounce between the two sometimes when I want a change of scenery.
ATS 222h, ETS2 30h
So i would say its just personal preference. Not sure now but the us trucks with heavy duty rigs are bigger/longer then the european variants.
The map with all dlc (ATS) is quite big and there is lot to do/drive.
The base games are not expenive and the best moment is to get them on sale.
1. Longer driving distances in ATS. California and southern states in particular have much greater distances you need to cover between cities. Also, finding a fuel station can be a challenge as some roads do not have them at all (you need to get off the road to fuel up).
2. ATS is the game that gets all the newest updates first. So if you want to experience all the latest innovations as fast as possible, then ATS is it.
1. cities are closer to eachother so less driving mindlessly on CC, really have to pay attention to where you are going
2. first of all, BS, 2nd, ATS getting game updates just a day (or two) sooner means less bug updates for ETS2 :-p :-)
Agree with your take on the driving distances, though I personally prefer to drive for longer and not get stuck in traffic light ques in cities all the time, like in ETS.
Also, seriously do not like "old content roads" in ETS (the non expansion roads). So driving in Germany, UK, Poland and some parts of France is just crap, especially with the obnoxious toll gates spam. Junctions are also done much better on the American side than the European one.
i am also suffering from the ETS fatigue as I've played it since it first came out, back before it transitioned to Steam and long before ATS came out.
As for my second point I made in the previous post - ATS gets newest updates about a week ahead of ETS, not a day as you say.
