Maybe not that noticeable in ATS (North America) but it is very noticeable in ETS2 (Europe). The northern part (Scandinavia) has MUCH longer days than the southern part (Iberia, Italy, ...).
If you are able to position yourself to your IRL home location (or at least the same latitude) on the ATS map the sunrise/sunset *should* be roughly the same as is real life.
The game time in this game doesn't tick at the normal rate. That's why you can make a 10 hour drive in like half an hour of real time.
I also notice there is a timezone setting. It defaults to OFF. I've never turned it on, it seems like it would complicate things. But it probably affects sunrise and sunset times.
Timezone just adjusts in-game local time when you cross state borders (since some game states are Pacific and some are Mountain Time)
The sunrise and sunset times are based on the game place, AKA USA. And like SecretOne posted, game is locked on Summer solstice. So the far north you go, earlier the Sun will rise and later the Sun will set.
You can try the mod meatballs_21 suggested, but I'm pretty sure it's still based on USA timezone and latittude, not your local time.
Right, and that will change sunrise and sunset times. If you turn on time zones, and that changes California by 1 hour, then it will shift sunrise and sunset times by 1 hour in California
