Note that Idaho is connected to the base game through Nevada, but if you don't want to have Texas isolated from the starting map, you should purchase New Mexico as well. Otherwise you will still able to teleport to Texas and drive there, but not make direct deliveries, as there's no crossing point between the base game and Texas.
Edit : the Enchanted bundle from the store page includes New Mexico and a couple of customisation DLCs as well. That might be the best way to get your money worth while waiting for Texas to release.
The base game and the older DLCs are on sale quite often, every 6-8 weeks or so. I have seen up to 70 % discount (less for the not-so-old DLCs).

I think you will really enjoy ETS2. Those cabover tractors are really easy to maneuver compared to most of the tractors in ATS.
