Real Duel Peterbilt 281/351
Hi, just got into ATS. Being a fan of Spielberg's first movie "Duel", which stunned me as a kid, I'm wondering why a correct Pete has not been modeled yet.

While the Fruehauf tanker is available on Workshop in the old rusty livery, very well done, the only 281 I could find has some flaws.

The combination of a Day Cab and a 6x2 chassis will not give you a fifth wheel which means the tanker will couple at the rear edge of the truck, which looks awkward. Fitting a sleeper cab or changing to 4x2 fixes this - but is not accurate.

Also a rusty livery for the 281 would be nice - but I haven't located one yet.

Any thoughts?

What would be the point, the game is about hauling freight?

Now that's a pretty pointless answer.

What is you point, by the way? With a Peterbilt 281 and a Fruehauf tanker someone could actually haul fuel.

The movie used two sets of the truck and trailer for filming, one set has the trailer hitched fairly far back.

I love that film too. It would be nice to see that ol' Pete on a lonely road somewhere, on a long, arid, parched expanse of American hinterland. And then you overtake that truck just a little too easily . . .

I thought Dennis Weaver was great in it

Yep, the first one was a 281 and the second one for the added scenes was a 351 with a long frame.

Only one truck was used while filming the original TV movie, which was famously destroyed when it plunged off a cliff at the end

Since the original truck was destroyed, two more were built to look like it. Tv movie

12-2022 After 10 years no one has made this truck. What is the problem? 10 years of a game that does not have the most famous truck in the world. If I could make a truck, this would be my baby, and I would become a millionaire. Too bad SCS is blind to this too.

The Coca-Cola Holiday Truck (Cascadia this year, in the game), Optimus Prime (FL86, mod), Snowman (W900A, mod) and “two days ago I saw a vehicle that’d haul that tanker” (Mack R-600, mod) would all like a word.

Not sure what’s wrong with the Peterbilt 351 mods, either.
