Best Wheel Controller For ATS?
So I was considering buying one of those wheels you can use in driving games as a controller for ATS as I would like a nice change from using mouse and keyboard. Which one works best for this game specifically from other people's experiences with wheels? And no I don't want any additons like the shifter just the wheel and pedals. Thanks for any insight.

I use a Logitech G920. Works great and have never had a problem with it. Just make sure it is set up correctly in the game settings and you have the G-Hub software installed from Logitech.

Wheel is good for short plays and patience to set it up everytime. Controller solves both throse problems, no uncomfortable pains, easy plug in. Fair warning my steering wheel(G27) is sitting in the closet now.

What is your budget?

If you like a hybrid belt/pulley type system, which offers smooth wheel rotation and great force feedback then you will want to choose Thrustmaster. T150 or TMX.

If you like a gear wheel with a leather wrapped steering wheel then go with the G29/G920. These wheels can feel notchy as system inside the wheel is geared. There are also lots and lots of complaints about Logitech wheels. The wheels are good outside of ATS but if you browse through the discussions a lot of people have problems with their Logitech wheels.

My opinion says to go for Thrustmaster. The wheels are quieter, have better force feedback and there is no bloated software that you need to run.

You don't have to " set it up every time." i only set my wheel and pedals up Once when i first bought it. haven't had to touch the settings again since.

I'd say no more than $200 for a budget. I'll start taking a look at the wheels and see which one best suits me. Thanks for the feedback.

And do watch for sales, the choice between TM and Logitech might come down to which is heavily discounted when you are ready to buy. Consider used if you can buy locally (Craigslist) at a substantial, savings.
Some wheels come with 2 pedal sets, some with 3 pedals...if you are going to want to shift manually 3 pedals are better...

If you want to be a weirdo and use your $4000 PC with a steering wheel in your face all year 24/7 good for you.

Tmx or t150 for that budget. Pro version with much better pedal gets discounted under 200 every now and then. Worth it if you eventually want to use an h shifter, but even if not t3pa pedals are much better quality than the plastic pedals that come with the basic version.

Tx / t300 sports much smoother fully belt driven ffb but they are more expensive.

Which you choose for pc doesn't matter, they are the same wheel. Tx/tmx are compatible with xbox, and t150/t300 with PlayStation. If you have one or the other its worth getting the one you can also use with your console.

If you go outside those suggestion, make sure you have 900 degree rotation on the wheel. 270 degree will work but truck will be hard to maintain in a straight line, or fine tune back up maneuver.

Edit - I do not recommend Logitech as a manufacturer as in the last few years, everything I bought from them, either mouse, headset etc failed within a year or two, and from a known fault they chose not to correct, even if it was a product that was being sold for a few years. They are typically cheaper, but the value takes quite a drop in build quality for the 20-30 buck you may save vs other brand.

15 years ago they were my go to manufacturer. Now I avoid the brand like the plague.

I have a G27. It works great with iRacing and ATS, but once you pull off the asphalt onto a dirt road it gets noisy with lots of chatter. A belt drive wheel is the better choice for this game.

And if you really want to splurge get a set of pedals with a load cell brake. I'm using Fanatec ClubSport V3. It makes braking much more predictable.

Fanatec and 200$ budget do not go together however :P

Tbh the t3pa will work aplenty for ats. Are they as awesome as the t3pa pro or the fanatec's? No but they are much cheaper and some wheels come with them included for little extra price under 200$ (in the us at least, which i guess the OP is from. As a Canadian had to spend a bit more due to exchange rate)

May have to wait for tmx pro or t150 pro to get discounted but it happens often enough.

Meanwhile keyboard and mouse work decently, and in my opinion better stick with that longer to get a good wheels vs getting a subpar one right now.

I use a Logitech G920 as well a Logitech shifter. The wheel is great because of all the different buttons I can use like in a real truck.
ketfliper Jan 18, 2020 @ 6:54pm
whether the choice would the best for you, it is good for trucks to have a bigger steering wheel ... 14inch / 350mm. - base and pedals should be in Suspended position like T3PA PRO

When you aren't driving just unplug it and move it out of the way. When you want to play plug it back in, it's that simple. Most cases have front usb slots so it's no hassle. All the settings stay so you don't have to do anything else, just plug it in and go.

Controllers are an abomination in driving games. If it's a choice between keyboard or controller I vote keyboard everytime.
